The Pac Bay Rodsmith epoxy I tried was about 1/2 way between the two. It stayed well till I assembled the parts without dripping all over and I noticed that it flowed a bit when everything was assembled and vertical. Didn't see any movement in tight contact areas, so I could clean up a forget it, and it set faster than Rod Bond, but slower than Flex Coat 20. About an hour to set, full strength gl

Those are very nice blanks. Lamiglas also has some nice glass blanks the ICG 98 2DR and the ICG 108 2DR.

Jim, I see no reason why the things the surf fisherman do wouldn't also work on the bass rods if you like the look. There are lots of info and pictures on this site that will help. "Surf rod grips" , Leather grips. rope grips or similar posts in the search engine should get you some help.

You could use a 5 power Batson popping blank or a 3 power IMB or MB 61/2 ft or 7 ft bass blank for flukes and other similar plastics.

The silvers in Alaska aren't any bigger than anywhere else. A 7 or 8 weight rod will handle them just fine. Not knowing anything about the flyfishing experience of the lady in question, I'm not so sure I'd put her in a high modulus, faster actioned blank. I think a med fast blank would be easier for a more novice person to use, and a 33 mil like the RX6 blank, or an RX7 Batson or Tiger Eye blan

Jan, The Pac Bay Rainforest SJ783 blank will be similar in action to the LSJ783, but there is quiet a difference in the weights of the blanks, the Lamiglas being considerably lighter. The St Croix blanks are harder to find copies of, the Batson Rainshadow SB822.5 is close to the 3C68MXF. Rogue makes a higher powered dropshot blank than most, the DS704. Don't know about the availability of these

I have a preference for the Loomis GL3 P844 simply because I've fished it the most both in salt and freshwater situations. It works well at many tasks. It builds into great rods in both spinning and casting configurations. The others Jim mentioned are great also. For me the two fish are best fished with 2 rods as Bill said, but if I had to choice, the 4 power is the way to go.

John, Just about all our sponsors have blanks at a discount one time of another, rod series are discontinued, blank colors are changed, etc. It depends on what your looking for and what brands you like if you have a preference, and where you live, which can make a difference in shipping costs. It's hard to help without some info.

I'd go smaller. 12 & 8 Hopkins & Holloways, Size #2 singlefoot wire, and #1 singlefoot wires to the tip. No need to go with an oversized tip.

Once you glue the cork/eva grips and reelseat on a blank they all become part of the rod's structure. If your asking if the blank comes to you with split grips structure already installed, or part of the blanks design, no I haven't seen that.

Jason, Once you Rod Bond that reelseat to the blank it becomes a part of the blank's structure and should not fail. I've have to put some pretty thin structures on from time to time and I haven't had any fail. You'd be surprised how much load the reelseat will really take and how much load really isn't actually being applied to the reelseat under normal fishing conditions.

10 ft RX7 blanks are well designed for what you want to do, the 8 wt is very well thought of here on the west coast. They are very forgiving blanks that throw floating, sinktip, and shooting heads well.

Gary, Angler's Workshop has some spin/cast GUSA blanks around. Some of their fly and other shop blanks were also made by them so that may increase your selection.

The only thing I've seen grooved with the fly tiptop. Didn't think of taking a picture at the time, just put on a new tip top, the rod was fished a lot and all guides have a service life, never thought of any warranty the guide as they aren't any harder than a stainless guide from what I understand. Just put a full set of spinning guides on my CTS 3 piece rod a few months ago, the one I built for

Have Dan send a top and guides with the blank, he carries a good selection. That way you get the correct one. Published specs are not always correct for each blank you receive.

Diawa started putting triangular foregrips on their saltwater rods back in the mid to late 80's, my mom's salmon rod has one also.

I'd use the same stuff, butter up both sides and than remove every last bit you can scrape off. The less you use the better the look and bond. It should look just barely wet with the epoxy when you join the cork rings.

Spectra does a dandy job of cutting up water veggies and my hands a few times, but not my guides. Have used it on some of my rods, 12-14 years now I guess.

The old Loomis catalog had the GL3 CB756GL3 listed as a 6 to 12 lb blank, 1/4 to 1/2, but also listed as a HVY power blank with big meaty dimensions. The rod catalog lists it as 12-25 lb and 1 3/8 oz lure weight. The Bronze series according to Loomis are an improvement using a modulus blended construction.

All the manufacturers I listed make a good product, can't imagine sending any of them back due to poor quality. I've just not seen that from our suppliers.

Mo, If you have a hook in the fish, and he works it around enough that the diameter of the hole, or the length of the gash the hook is in is considerably larger than the hook/barb combo or if you're fishing barbless waters, than how the fish/lure/bait react to each other is a concern to me. Barbless waters is a big thing here on the west coastUSA/Canada/Alaska. I've just observed over the years

I use glass blanks for light line for exactly the reasons Mo wants.Glass bends more into the blank which gives you more blank to keep the line tension, protect the light line and bends more smoothly into the backbone. I love my graphite rods but the rods I've lost the least amount of steelhead/salmon after the hookup has always been my glass rods. The same with bass, etc. and small treble hooks

Darby, 120-150 ft for a 1/4 oz weight is a pretty good distance, not knowing what reel/rod you're using. If it's a spinning reel the further you cast, the harder it is to get distance because the line causes more friction on the spool lip as the amount of line on the reel decreases. Bigger diameter spool reels and smaller diameter/limp line is the only way to decrease this problem that you have

Dan, The only wire silicone carbide guide (Ceramic Ring) I know of is the Hopkins and Holloway guides. Maybe your talking about the Carbide metal ringed guides. Angler's Workshop has them from a couple manufacturers. Fuji Titanium braced guides can be bought from just about any of the sponsors. Custom Tackle, Angler's, Mudhole and others have them on the shelf all the time, these are the cadilla
