If you can't find any of the chrome M guides from Batson at any of the sponsors, Neal carries the Sevier match guides in chrome.

I use glass blanks for light line for exactly the reasons Mo wants.Glass bends more into the blank which gives you more blank to keep the line tension, protect the light line and bends more smoothly into the backbone. I love my graphite rods but the rods I've lost the least amount of steelhead/salmon after the hookup has always been my glass rods. The same with bass, etc. and small treble hooks

Darby, 120-150 ft for a 1/4 oz weight is a pretty good distance, not knowing what reel/rod you're using. If it's a spinning reel the further you cast, the harder it is to get distance because the line causes more friction on the spool lip as the amount of line on the reel decreases. Bigger diameter spool reels and smaller diameter/limp line is the only way to decrease this problem that you have

Dan, The only wire silicone carbide guide (Ceramic Ring) I know of is the Hopkins and Holloway guides. Maybe your talking about the Carbide metal ringed guides. Angler's Workshop has them from a couple manufacturers. Fuji Titanium braced guides can be bought from just about any of the sponsors. Custom Tackle, Angler's, Mudhole and others have them on the shelf all the time, these are the cadilla

The Quantum Micro rods are built with solid tips and I think Dale Clemens used to have a line called "flea flicker" or something like that.

Tim, You need to read the article in the library again, you don't select the guides, the rod and reel does. Using that small a diameter line and I'm assuming a smaller reel the 30 is probably to big to start with. Go with the absolute smallest and least amount of guides that you can.

Not to important for anything under the cap, just make sure you have a nice clean square edge. Finishing the rest to 400 is fine, 220 is probably the minimum..

What you fishing for? The 2 piece steelhead blanks work pretty well, and they store well. They also come in a variety of lengths and line weights. Another would be one the the match blanks that Mark sells at The Rod Shop, they throw gear into next week on a lake.

Love the Loomis P844, still have the spinning version in IM6 from back in the 80's that I used or just that purpose in N. Miami. When your done you'll also have a decent crankbait rod and a good all around rod you'll find other uses for.

Both should work, but the 3D depth would be seen with the epoxy just like the effect from putting your decals or names over a coat of epoxy. You can wrap your second wrap with a sacrificial second thread along side to get the spacing correct than remove the second thread.

St Croix used to make a 12 ft blank according to my records, the 2SRC120XH2, but I heard a while ago that they were cutting back on some lines so I don't know if it's still a good number.

Tim, The more info you give the more I think the ISB822.5 Rainshadow may be your blank. It has a light tip that wouldn't need much room to load up, loads progressive enough to help protect your 6 lb line and has enough backbone for the job. It's the blank I made my new wife's "Do It All " rod off of.

I think your comparing two things. The rod is a fast action rod built on IM6 graphite. A fast action rod can be built on any material and none of them will be similar. I think you are thinking a fast action rod would also be a fast recovery rod and that is just not true. No more than a mod fast blank could not have fast recovery characteristics or that it couldn't throw just as tight a loop as t

I'm with Paul. Any fish in the water weighs nothing, he after all is neutrally buoyant ,floating about right? The environment you are fishing him in and how far the species is likely to run is most important in determining line weight. Use no heavier line than is needed to get the job done. That said I don't think you need to go any heavier than a 3 power in the IP or ISP blanks. I wouldn't us

The Matagi reelseats at Merrick are similar to the Diawa and other high end Japanese rod reelseats. Other sponsors like Schneider's, Amity Harbor I think also carry them

Nathan, Another blank you might want to look at is the LSJ841 XMG50 (6 to 10 lb) Lamiglas blank for that application. Anglers Workshop has some for close to the same price as the Rainshadow. A high mudulus, nice light blank. Lamiglas also used to sell tennessee handle rods, but they were always a regional favorite that didn't seem to get to far from the southern states according to them. I've ow

Did one on one of my rods after seeing the pictures in RodMaker that I think Tom submitted. Has worked well so far. Coated with Permagloss, but I bet it would work with epoxy also.

The longer grip helps to tuck the rod in under your armpit with the tip down while reeling, it takes quite a bit of the load off your arm. It also can get a little in the way while casting, etc., it can snag clothing, etc.

That's a super sticker reelseat, upside down. Mudhole and probably most of the sponsors have them in stock. The foregrip is a Loomis cork, but easy to build yourself.

Matt, From the dimensions it sounds like it may be one of the Xtra Power BEMB 786, X Hvy bass blanks. 15-30 lb line, 5/8 to 2 oz lures. 6.5 tip, .665 butt. I too have used the AFTCO lightweight guides on a Lamiglas 15-40 inshore blank. It's worked great casting, etc. for at least 8 years now, but I only use it maybe a dozen times a year.

I would get with R.B. Meiser to the left and see if one of his 10 ft 6 in Trouter rod blanks would fit your needs. I bet he has just what your looking for, or can recommend a blank, especially with your presentation. A lot of his blanks, and many, if not all, the two handed CTS blanks are his designs.
