Saw the post on triangle grips. Why? do they fit the hand better? Is it to get rid of the torque 'cuz the rod is not spiral wrapped or both?
Thanks, Wondering from Wisconsin Re: why the triangle grips?

Ergonometrics - grasp something and let the bottom fall in the crease of your fingers - hold it for awhile and see if it is comfortable and does not twist - Re: why the triangle grips?

Bill is right . It does not get rid of torque but helps to hold on and fight it better Re: why the triangle grips?

Diawa started putting triangular foregrips on their saltwater rods back in the mid to late 80's, my mom's salmon rod has one also. Re: why the triangle grips?

I use them on trolling rod forgripswhere you hold the rod by the foregrip especially because they are the most comfortable grips I have ever used. I make out of standrd round grips so I can het the size/taper that I want and can use different colors or even cork Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Here's a related post from another Rod Building board on a local fishing site, stripersonline.
[stripersonline.com] EB outlined how how makes the triangle grip, & I threw a couple of ideas out there on the possibility of mixing and matching materials. MAybe this will spurn some unique grips if someone can get it to work. Re: why the triangle grips?

I've built a couple of rods with the triangle foregrip. They are really comfortable. I purchased mine from one of the vendors on the left. If I recall, they come in a few different lengths. All I has to do was round down one of the ends to get a nice taper towards the winding check. Re: why the triangle grips?

One thing to consider. All situations are not the same. If you are involved in a long long fight, two hours, with a powerful pelagic the triangular grip is certainly more comfortable in the short haul. If you have to move your hand around just to rest and get the pressure in different places on your hand to get the blood flowing again the triangle makes shifting the grip pressure difficult. I tested it on one bluewater fly rod fighting grip and was asked to take it off and replace it with an eight inch oval for a variable grasp diameter. Edited 3 time(s). I read the article about the triangular grip in a recent RodMaker issue. But decades ago, I spent a couple of years attending a drafting/engineering design school (thought that's what I wanted to do) and when it came to handle design for a rachet wrench, an oval (some call it oblong) was the most comfortable design while gripping something when pressure was being applied. And 40 years later I still see heavy duty ratchet wrenches in stores with this design. I think Tom even alluded to the design of a hammer's handle - which is more oval/oblong than round. I've often thoght about an oval foregrip on my Salmon rods but can't figure out how to add cams to my wood lathe yet so I can turn them. I've got an apperatus that I can "draw" an oval but not sure how I could file/turn one that looked decent enough. Re: why the triangle grips?

A triangular shape won't be the most comfortable, but it does help you resist or apply torque better than a round grip will.
It can be a help, but don't sell the farm until you've given it some good time on the water. You may find that you don't really like it after all. ........... Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
