Diawa Steez rod

My fishing partner and I fished a night time team tournament Friday night. About 10:00 he hooked a fish with his Steez rod (given to him as a Christmas present). The fish pulled him under a log which put more pressure on the rod than normal, but not to much. The line broke and I heard his rod making a little noise in the dark, took a look and the #2 and #3 guides had pulled out from their wrappings. I had never seen that happen before, under those circumstances.

$450.00 for a store bought rod you'd think they would at least use locking or secure wraps on it.

wow........only time I've seen that was myself (using a rod I made years back before I knew what a Forhan wrap was) trying to get a lure out of a tree, I hooked the guide onto the lure and tried to pull it down with the guides strength, jerked the guide right out LOL ....but like you Steve, I've never seen it in a fishing situation either.

I had the same issue with a pricey Japanese model Daiwa, but chalked it up to my own fault. Was pulling the rod out of the car when it caught something on the side, and pulled the whole guide right out of it's wrap. I didn't damage the guide or the wrap, so I slipped it back in and put another coat of epoxy on it, been fishing it ever since and can't remember which guide it was.

He asked me if I would fix it. I told him for that kind of money take it back.
He did not catch the guides on any thing they just popped out.
I looked the rod over to see if maybe he had caught them on some thing before had but there are no marks what soever.
But before I even looked I knew there would not be, he is really particular about taking care of his stuff.

Have seen quite a few of these rods on craigslist, @#$%& and the bass forums for sale. Something is going on or the sponsored guys are offloading some.

I had this happen with an old Falcon gunsmoke. It seemed almost every time that I would fish this rod eyes would pop out while casting. It turned into a rewrap for me and until I recently broke it was a good rod. Falcon told me it was something to do with "too much tension when they were wrapped" not so sure about that but all I know it was annoying to have it happen.

I haven't seen it, but I repaired 2 guides for a coworker that had pulled out of one of his rods.

it wasn't a steez, not even close, but I've never seen in before then
