Could be PacBay M guides (MHG-5 high framed micro assuming the frame is chrome).

How many manufacturers provide CCS numbers? I know of Mudhole for their fly blanks and PacBay for their newest Quickline fly blanks.
Presumably that means we should not buy

Lighter guides, minima and exposed blank reel seats, and split grips all lead to increased sensitivity.
Smaller, lighter guides in the top half of the rod decrease the swing weight, which is much more important than absolute weight.
Decorative wraps are near the grip so they don't impact swing weight as significantly. The extra weight can actually help with balance which can make a rod more en

PacBay "quickLine" will certainly meet your requirements. Also consider Mudhole MHX.
I assume this is not for dries, since a very fast action rod is typically bad for presentation.
I would go with the ERN=7.15 with a 6WT RIO Gold line. You should be able to pound out line with that combination.

157. Re: HM X
I'm guessing you mean High Modulus MHX (HM-MHX) from Mudhole?

My experience: I have a 6500C3 that I use for salmon and steelhead in Western Canada.
I switched from the stock bearings to ABEC7 ceramic and included the level wind bearing upgrade (from Mike's Reel Repair) and got 50% more distance under all conditions. It is now a much better performing reel than my buddy's Calcutta 400TE for much lower price.
I didn't look at the original bearings so I don'

The epoxy holds the seat in place. The arbor just centers the seat and allows the epoxy to set.
If properly installed the material shouldn't need to be waterproof.
I've never seen an epoxy (or drywall mesh) arbor fail on a fly rod.

161. Re: Why split grip
Zero benefits? Really?
In a tip down configuration the weight reduction at the butt end makes it much more comfortable to fish.
I use a split grip on my spoon rod for Salmon and certainly prefer it that way.

The only spinning blanks I measured were 7' AmTak Matrix Green/Black 2pc blanks
AMSP843-2 rated 1/8-3/8oz, 4-10lb test.
ERN=12.4-13.1
AA = 75-76
I would think that there is a blank that meets your requirements but don't have that info.

Great comment Geoff. When will Pac Bay provide CCS numbers for all your blanks?

Wow! 4 identical posts at the same time.
Breaking the trend I spiral to the opposite side of the reel handle based on the premise that if there is any torque on the rod in the direction of the spiral it will be offset by the leverage on the handle.
I haven't noticed any torque though, so it probably doesn't matter. Mine is for river fishing so I never lay the rod on a flat surface anyways.

Never heard of a 9'7" blank from Mudhole.
Is this the new 10' 7wt fly blank? If so I haven't seen these blanks yet.

168. Re: Xi3 5 wt.
From what I recall the Xi series 5wt blanks have ERNs in the mid sixes, comparable to a 6wt MHX. If the MHX is fast enough for casting in the wind then I would say stick with it.

I'm thinking you may have the old "broomstick" style blanks which are extremely stiff and have heavy tips.
I won't name the mfg, but I had one that was labelled as a 5wt but wouldn't flex with 50 feet of line aerialized.
They are challenging to cast and are really not sensitive. That would explain the "strange" numbers.
It might make a good trolling rod.

You might want to re-check your ERN measurements. There aren't many 5wt labelled blanks that measure out to ERN=7.15 (unless it's a Dan Craft FT).
Make sure the blank is level before adding weight and measure the actual length of the rod to determine 1/3 deflection.
If AA is 57 it is slowER than the average factory 5wt rod and is much slower than Sage XP for reference.

Minimas are great if you don't use bobber stops. I have since switched to ceramic micros and they work a lot better.

I share your frustration. This information should be available and should be provided by the manufacturer.
I have moved to buying fly blanks from vendors that provide CCS numbers (Mudhole, Pac Bay) and so far I have not been disappointed.

Sounds like CCS data would be useful here. Mudhole provides it so you don't have to guess what you're going to get.
I have used both Batson and MHX fly blanks and found both to be acceptable.
For my casting style the overall best casting rod I have ever thrown line on is the MHX 9' 5wt.
It is light, fast but not stupid fast, the blanks are straight (especially at the tip). I consider it sepa

I am currently building the 8'6" MHX steelhead blank ST1023. It will be used to cast spoons and float rigs to 0.75oz.
There is absolutely no way it has the backbone to throw 2.1 ounces.

I can't say enough good things about the MHX 5wt. MHX is must faster than Rainshadow RX7, but I don't know about RX8.

6 weight is fine for 1/4oz. I am tossing over 1oz with a 10wt equivalent.
I agree that modern 3 or 4 piece rods won't affect performance. They will be slightly heavier but it's in the noise once you add a spinning reel.

I just built a spey to float conversion for west coast steelhead using a Batson RX6 11'6" 4pc blank (ERN:10.2).
I would characterize it comparable to a soft tip, medium action rod.
Mine is in casting configuration- I would say it is too soft in the tip
for a spinning rod.

I'm not a fan of the Minima guides for this application since the sharp ring edges really impede passing of bobber stops.
I just built a spiral wrapped fload casting rod and used Pac Bay DPL size 8 guides and they have worked well below freezing including bobber stops.

I just build a spey to float conversion using a Batson RX6 11'6" 6/7wt blank and it makes a very nice steelhead rod for northwestern rivers. The IF1086 has a lot less backbone and will be somewhat faster action but should work well for great lakes fish.

I also use the AmTak Aero seat in size 16 and find it very comfortable.
The OD of the mating cork grip is about 1", which is a normal max OD of a fly grip.
You guys must have huge hands :)
