I attended both days of the expo and i can say Steve Gardner report is right on. All the vendors were busy, there booths so crowded you had to wait to get close to see the merchandise they had. At (Custom Tackle), Bob was so busy, his help got my order that i had called in a couple of weeks ago. At (Sticks Sticks 4 You), they had big crowds, especially at the garbage can sale both days. I enjoy

I have read your post about the cost of $128 to ship 3 rods using the new math of the USPS with interest since i am employed with USPS as a Express Mail Clerk. I do not work at a window station or small post office but i process all express mail that has been accepted each day, sort, make sure customer has correct zip, and i place correct destination tag on every express bag and parcel before i

I am in the same scerino as Chris with a 5.5 ft UL with a underspin reel. I placed my rod on the table with the cover off of the reel and the center of the spool on the edge of the table and the rod did not intersect the edge of the table. So i dedcided to try the cone flight set up and work with it some to see what i can come up with. But if someone has built UL with underspin reel and has a bet

I was reading the last few issues of RMM on concept guide system and noticed in vol. 10-2, page 28, it reads number of guides used should be equal in number to the length of the rod in feet, plus one, plus tiptop. Rods that fall on the half-foot, just round down to the nearest full number of feet. So a 6-1/2 foot will count as a 6 footer and will utilize 7 guides plus tiptop. Then in Vol. 10-3, p

Tom, Scott, Fred, Russ, thanks for the ideas and advise. Sorry i was unable to reply before now, butt i had to leave for work. Just 3 more years. Thanks for the quick response Tom. I think i will keep the wood handle. I need to replace the reel seat since it was cut off. Do you think i could get by with a graphite seat or go with a more heavy seat? Thanks. Roger Greensboro, NC

166. Repair
I purchased from a elderly man a rod he had built 12 years ago that i got to know from years fishing at Kure Beach, NC. Used mostly flounder fishing from pier. The rod measured 8', i thought until the rear handle (wood) came loose. After a few search here, my neighbor and i carefully cut the reel seat off with a dremel and thats when i discovered the rod was only 62". The handle(18") wa

Thanks for the replies. I guess practice, practice, practice and more practice. In Tom's book, he said use light touch when wrapping. Maybe i am a little heavy handed. One again thanks for all the help. Roger

I have practiced my guide wrapping before i start on my first rod. I am using a manual wrapper with V supports. I have a slight problem keeping the rod from moving forward and back when wrapping. Any suggestions how i can fix this before i begin the real deal. Thanks.

173. 8LJ & 8J
In the process of building first rod UL and thought i would try the fuji concept guides. My question is what is difference of BYAG-8J and BYAG-8LJ? I had considered using the BLVLG guides. Would it be much of a difference using either on a UL(5.5 ft) in terms of weight and casting.

I thought the in and out motion could create an off center hole. That is why i used a rotating motion. I thought about those reamers, but since i am starting out i would wait. Maybe i should get the reamers. Thanks for the help.

Need some help. I was reaming my first cork handle for a UL today and the handle split. I was using a round tapered file 1/4 to 5/16. I did not use much of back and forth movement with the file. I was trying to rotate the handle on the file with a little pressure. A little over half way the handle split in two round halfs. What did i do wrong. Too much pressure. How is the best way to ream a co
