Building a spinning surf rod for my 11yr grandson. I have built only casting surf rods for myself so looking for a little help for spinning guides. I know i could go with SIC guides but since this is for a 11yr old i believe i need to go with something else. The blank is rated 15-25 lb test and 3/4 - 4oz lure. Mod fast and med power. Would i use the same style for running guides that i would us

Do most builders when wrapping spinning guides for a spinning rod put your tucks on top or bottom or the side of the rod?

Living here in Greensboro it would be nice having here in conjunction with the fishing expo even thou i like High Point. The convention center in Winston-Salem is really nice. Having in Raleigh or Durham are good choices. Even Chapel Hill (aka God's Country) would work. Raleigh has good night life, airport convenience, amtrak convenience. good eating (BBQ) the Pitt featured on Food Network and B

James The blank came from Hatteras Jack, and the word Century is written on the blank. Ryan says 2 - 5 oz. Using a conventional reel. I am on the small size at 5' 9" about 165lbs & 61 yrs old. Maybe if i tried braid i might could get little more distance. I have moved guides and reel seat around a lot. Also tried 20mm, 16mm, 12mm and 10's rest o way and 10 tip. Got about same distan

This will be my first surf rod build and got a couple of questions. I should have researched more before i ordered the shrink tube but i had planned to put the shrink tube directly on the blank. Then i read that you should have something between the blank and the shrink tube. I got some cork tape now and my questions is do i put the reel seat on first and run the cork tape up to the reel seat o

In a previous post i was seeking recommendation for a blank for fishing for spanish from pier. I gave info about lure weight and line, needing fast to moderate fast action with some backbone. I forgot to mention that these spanish only run from 1 to 2 lbs. Thanks, Roger

Looking for a blank to throw gotcha plugs. Be fishing from pier for spanish so i will need one with some backbone and light action. Lure weight is 7/8 to 1oz. 10# mono or 4# braid with 18in leader. I have a IP843, but i don't believe it has enough backbone for lifting fish over railings. Thanks, Roger Greensboro, NC

Are ferrules necessary for all 2 piece rods (surf rods)? I picked up a 11' surf rod at the expo and this will be my first 2 piece build. So i am not sure if i need a ferrule. Thanks, Roger Greensboro, NC Never mind, found the answer. Modern multi piece rods have integral ferrules.

I want to do my first elongated close wrap on a small diameter blank. The butt measurement is 31mm, center 30mm, tip 29mm. Since there is very little taper would you use the taper offset spacing or would you start with 30mm at the butt and increase by 1 or 2 mm at each cross over? Thanks, Roger Greensboro, NC

I am in the process of wrapping my third butt wrap. first 2 where diamond wrap and i did 5 in long open wrap. I would like to do a closed wrap this time on a IP844. Wondering what length wrap most people wrap on a rod this size? I have marked off 150mm for now with butt diameter of 35mm, center 32mm, tip 30mm. Opinion on some patterns if i keep the measurements as is. I was leaning to a fish
