Enjoyed the gathering yesterday. Tom demonstrated how to apply finish to guide wrap, talked about rod breakage. I picked up a tip from Steve Gardner on wrapping micro's. Also met and talked to some rod builders. Picked up a Castaway 964 XP3 blank.

In process of gathering everything to build a ultra lite(6 1/2 ft). I want to try my hand at using #4 micro's for the running guides. I have minima 4 and 6's guides now. I have the xp4xt #6 top. My understanding is #6 is the smallest top that matches with the minima guides. If i use the #4's will the #6 top be to big or is there a smaller top that matches well with the mimina guides? Also does

Robert, I bought a FS764 from the trash can bin last month at the expo. The list attached to the can had it listed as a flippin stick. I think the lure weight range was 3/8 - 1 1/2. Not 100% sure.

Per/Tom. One note - we usually have a long, long line of foiks waiting to get into the Reception. This is because so many arrive a bit early. We won't open the doors until 6:30 and we don't start giving away the door prizes until about 7:15. So do yourself a favor and be fashionably late. There will be plenty of food for everybody and arriving a little after 6:30 will save you a good bit of time

136. Optivisor
Looking at optivisors to buy. Unsure which magnifying lens would be good. What lens strength do most use. Also what is a good light to use at your work bench or wrapping station? Thanks, Greensboro, NC

I have tried nylon and metal washers. The spring and washer turns then the wing nut starts turning. The rod does not turn. I will try the screw head covers. I made this for madeira thread. My other thread carriage the madeira thread spools were to long for the shorter rod on my Pac Bay Wrapper.

I have made a thread carriage and having trouble keeping tension on the spool. i am using a 1/4 threaded rod with washers, nuts, spring, wing nut and tried binder clip. The problem i am having is when i start wrapping a guide everything starts turning even the wing nut. Anyone who has made a thread carriage could you give some advice to help with this problem.

I notice some builders have something between the reel seat and where the fore grip butts up to the reel seat. What would this be and is it for keeping moisture out. Thanks, Roger Greensboro, NC

Hardloy or Alconite guides hold up better in salt water fishing? I know Titanium is best but wondering about the the two mentioned. Also will 12lb mono pass through a #6 guide with no problem? Thanks, Roger Greensboro, NC

I did a search from the photo page on split grips and found some nice grips. I noticed from all the pics that the 2 rear grips varied in length, be it cork, eva or wood. My question is how do you decide what length to use, the length of the rod or the type of fishing you will be doing or by feel. I wanted to try a split grip on my next build which will be a flounder rod (7') fished around pier p

Glad the expo was last weekend. This weekend in the High Point-Greensboro area, we've had rain, sleet, freezing rain this am, and 3 to 7 inches of snow to come later today and throughout the night. Tom picked the perfect weekend for the expo. Hope next year will the perfect weekend.

How far from the butt end of the blank should a preformed cork grip fit when doing a dry fit before you epoxy to the blank? This is my first try with preformed grips. The grip is 7inches. Thanks.
