Ben,
You would most likely want to go with the BYAG as that is what I use and was show how to use ( by Mr. Gardner!!).... I have not tried transitioning directly from the 10 to the 4 you might be able to bend the frame on the four slightly to get the appropriate height... I know that you don't want to order a single guide as I didn't when I first got started but I can tell you that I have a m

I tried some 2.0's on a rod that I use exclusively with 12lb copoly and didn't care for the casting, I ended up going with 2.5's just as Steve has suggested and like it much better.
Steve, I need your fingers to talk with mine!! I was wrapping 2.0's on some MHX s781's and WOW did I have a hard time with em... Combined with the small guides and thin tips of the blanks, I ended up taking a scal

Give Lance and Bill at Swampland a call and see if they can hook you up with a MB783 or as previously suggested check out the SJ783 for whatever manufacturer that you like... Not sure what budget you are looking at but you have a TON of great options from Batson, Swampland, MHX, St. Croix, Lamiglass and if you have the $$ North Fork.

1146. Re: Blank info HG783
I wish that I would have picked up a few more of these when I had the chance!!!! They are a great little blank and I built mine as spinners for a fellow who doesn't baitcast... he loves them!! He too uses it for soft plastics and smallish jigs.

1151. Re: Who's wrapping?
Ray,
sounds good. I have two spools of Fishhawk and have been satisfied with it. I think that I might be switching over to a majority of Fishhawk this year. I am gonna try to pick a bunch of it up at the expo this year.

Well, Scott I am not too sure who is my closest dealer but judging by the 757 area code if Ray is a dealer then he would most likely be the closest. I am in Chesapeake VA.

I have only used an additional guide on one rod so far and that was the MHX s781's I just built and that was only because the tips were so thin I wanted a little extra protection on them and since they were 2.0mm's I don't think the extra weight affected it to the point you could feel it.

Charles,
I am not too sure if they will be there on hand but I do know that I have dealt with Karen at Bingham, Scott at Fishsticks and Ron at Schnieders in getting the colored micros... I had to make a minimum order of 25 of the sizes I requested and I believe it took about 4-5 weeks for them to arrive but I assure you they are worth every second of the wait! Give anyone of these folks a sh
Forum: rodboard 13 years ago

You don't need to worry about colors, you can get them in micros if you are willing to wait for them! I have seen some of the black and gold ones that Steve has on his personal rods and they are SWEET. I have procured some of thos as well as some black framed blue insert models for my personal sticks.

1162. am I the only one??
Ok so here it is 0140 in the morning and I am still working on rods... good thing cause I have people ordering.. bad thing cause I have to be up in three hours for work..... So, I have three handles I am glueing up on some MHX S781's. I reach for what I think is rod bond and whoa la, I pop open the top to my cork seal, promptly dumping half of it in my lap and all over the carpet... I now have a

I would second what Jim said, I got a Jet second hand with full set of tools and many pieces of wood for 200.00 so that is what I recommend... If you keep a sharp eye out there are deals to be had. I have heard my favorable comments on the Rikon as well.

1164. new fuji guides
In looking at the new Fuji catalog. I noticed the bkwag and blcag series guides. Which are most suited for a stripper guide on typical bass rods of course using the micro guides? i am currently using Blnag's and Alps (mostly Alps). One last question, for spinning rods do the K series offer that much of an advantage over the byag?
thanks,

Call Lance at Swampland, if I recall correctly he has some blanks for around 15.00 or so.... they even fish well so don't discount them as just a practice tool. I have built quite a few for people and they love them.

For those of you who have ever built rods for charity type of events how did you decide on blank choice? I have a command Christmas party coming up that I was asked to build a couple of rods for. I offered up a couple of casting rods... Since I am a Marine who is in a Navy command, I decided I would do one in a theme of the Marine Corps and the other USN. The audience will be comprised of those

I haven't used that particular blank but I can tell you that i have been very satisfied with the blanks that I have used of theirs. I even stuffed one into the back of my Tahoe and broke 2 inches off of the tip. I called and asked what the blank might have been suitable for with the tip missing and I got a replacement blank free of charge, was totally suprised by that (no I didn't ask for a repla

Good to hear from ya. The budget he is looking to stay within is around the 60-70 range. I am not sure the exact line they are using. I hope to have that information today. Mike, you have mail. Spencer I have some of those at the house and will see what they think. Thanks again gents and keep the suggestions coming if you have any.
