I taped on the guides and it looked pretty good to me. Yes, I am using that exact article. I was just wanting to make sure that I didn't hose it up before I wrap it. I was concerned that with having spacing of 6" between the 3rd and 4th I was doing something wrong. thanks again Tom Kaufmann GySgt USMC

Good Evening Gentlemen, I have a question for you all to ponder for quick minute if you have the time. I have a Shikari S501 that I am working on. I have a 4" rear grip, with a 4" fuji deluxe 16mm reelseat on it with a single ring for the foregrip.(I don't mind the small reelseats) I am using a Symetre 750 for the reel on this one and have set it up with the concept spacing. This is

Ok Steve, First off let me say that Spencer hit the nail on the head by giving you the advice of putting it together correctly ie.... smallest guides and wraps and balance and such.. I have seen and had the displeasure of fishing with improperly built rods. They were built on high end blanks (SHX,SCV and IMX) and fished VERY POORLY. The balance was horrible, handles were not done well at all and

First off I will say that I am sort of a St Croix freak in ways... I LOVE THEIR STUFF! Might just be on account of being raised in WI. But I will also tell you that I have built MANY Rainshadows and have been VERY impressed with the quality, sensitivity, and the people who I delt with to get them. I have not ponied up the money for an RX8 as of yet but I am sure that I will get to it sooner or

Indeed you are correct Tom, It has been transfered to the Marine Corps. We took over Miramar shortly after the closure of EL Toro just a little further north of Miramar. I believe that this took place sometime in the mid 90's, so it has been a couple of minutes since the changing of the gaurd if you would like to call it that. I completely support you decision to keep the show located on

I've got a set on an old Fenwick HMG 4wt. They seem to be holding up fine although I don't suppose these little Sierra trout put too much of a strain on them. I will say that I enjoy the quietness they offer over the snakes I had on the rod previously. Their weight doesn't comprimise the performance of this blank either. Tom Kaufmann GySgt USMC

Todd, Spencer was refering to Custom Tackle Supply (CTS) in Tennessee, not the New Zealand company in which you are refering to. I can see how this could confuse some people. I hope that this clears it up. As far as the blanks are concerned, I too would go with the CTS!! Great blanks and the people with whom you will deal with (Andy) are TOP NOTCH Tom Kaufmann GySgt USMC

Tyson, I have a question for ya. Is your buddy going to use the same size/style of bait??? if he is not you are lookig at developing a keeper that must slide within some type of frame or something adjustable that will allow him to hook up the different style baits. Please post pics when you get it worked out, you have really peaked my interest on this one. Tom

It is a shame to see such a good company looking towards the masses for boosted sales. They have always prided themselves on being a small time company from rural northern Wisconsin (not too far from where I grew up in the great northwoods) I can only hope that they don't trash the other lineups that they currently have. You can bet if they do I will quickly find another "favorite" comp

I have had no issues with the blanks that I have gotten from them. I am excited to see the new RX8's they are making!!!!! I have found most of their blanks to be straighter than many of the "high dollar big names!!" If you think that it is too much send it back. Tom

I have a few of the old Lews Speed Spins both the one and two's, really like them but they are HEAVY and are really starting to show some serious wear. I think that it is about time to put them on the shelf and replace with some new quantums or shimano's. Tom

I have gotten to where I will normally cut off the tenion portion of the handle if I use that style and just epoxy a single rubberized cork ring and then shape to the desired look. I have found that when it comes time to shape it the quickest thing is a sure form file from Stanley. hope this helps and didn't confuse ya (vicaden can do that, blew up my knee today.... lots more time to build no

Guys, I certainly appreciate all of the advice. I will make sure that if I use them again I will check that I have enough tension (checked this morning and it seemed a little looser than I thought it was). I will also use the Forhan as well as ensure that I have enough epxoy in the tunnel. Again, thanks for all of the great advice. Billy, I am glad that I am not the only one experiencing t

Sam, On these rods, I didn't put any type of blocking wrap. On all of the recent rods I've made I'm using the Forhan and love it. These were a couple of my first rods and was intimated for some silly reason as to using the Forhan wrap. I will not make a rod without it now. I have even started to put it on some of the running guides on my spinning and fly rods.

Cliff, I will certainly make note of how tightly I wrap them for future use. Thanks for the suggestion. Tom

I've got about 7 spools of green in the house right now and none of them have that problem. Green seems to be one of my favorites for wraps. Must be the Marine in me.

Huh!!! Must be something that I am doing then. I have also had a couple of "factory rods" that have been plagued with this problem. Maybe I am just WAY too hard on my stuff. I am just going to replace all of them with a single foot fly guide nonetheless. Was just curious if others are having like problems.

I am a HUGE fan of St. Croix but with that said. I have built many of the All Stars that I got from Andy and the Batson's are certainly a VERY nice blank for the price (thanks to Robert at Fish Sticks for all of the great help). I have only gotten one CTS so far and was VERY impressed (much like the SCV's- can't wait to see the bass line) but a friend decided he needed it more that I did so it

Good evening gentlemen, It has been a while since I have posted but I have yet another question for all of you. I have been having a problem with the Fuji Alconite Bridge guides falling out. Specifically the size 8. I think that it may be due to the shortness of the foot on the guide but I am not sure. I have stopped using them but has anyone else encountered this problem ?? If you have, what
