David I don't know about being tested but my first question would be IF you love the rod that much why didn't you bring it back to the builder, aside from that i agree with what has been said above re honesty

Peter as I said before much depends on where and time of year the angler chooses to fish
Winter will usually find the fish in deep canals and calls for very slow movement of artificials blanks in the 6'6"-7 ft are ideal line ratings run 8-17 to 12-25 a blank capable of handling 1/4 oz jigs are a good bet
Spring- finds them moving out through the passes with stronger tides a blank that

Peter depends on how and where you plan to fish, the blanks Billy mentioned are excellent in many cases, for really tight dock fishing the B70 H may be the ticket

I stopped selling rods a few years ago prefer doing them for myself and friends BUT repairs here are through the roof in some case total insanity might be close to triple what i did last year. I don't know if it is attempt to save money but as long as the repair is less then a new rod it is go for it.

Mike I have had that happen to me twice must be a little faster then you as no damage except to nerves. Both times it was due to the mandrel slipping into the head stock. Warnings like you have given is a great reminder to us all thanks.

Stan I would venture to say you did the one thing that guarantees a failure 100% of the time, mix exactly 3cc of resin to 3cc of resin and it will NOT cure and it is something a good number of us have or will do glad it came out ok

102. Re: Star Rods
At least a number of Star rods had the writing put on by the distributors sometimes for special customers to make them look more custom. They had a somewhat different system for distribution then other brands and they the distributors protected their retail sellers.Frank Thomson was the fl west coast distributor for a good number of years and he often could be found putting something in writing o

104. Re: Star Rods
Sean almost all the older Star rods were made on Gator Glass blanks, they did have a couple of models that utilized ugly stiik blanks, and a couple that were OEM for them, roughly 90% or higher were gator glass

105. Re: Decal 101
Scott if you touch the back of the decal it may remove a tiny amount of adhesive causing it to lift.
The best tool for applying the peel and stick is a wall paper roller the small one used for edges about two inches wide, you can apply far more pressure using it then any other way

109. Re: 2 questions
As Fred said if it says nylon it is regular thread not NCP. I would suggest trying a small wrap on the very butt end and apply finish you may very well like the color you get without using CP. My own preference when using holo guides is avoid metallics except maybe a small trim band, I think this shows off the guides better and again this is just what I like

110. Re: Grouper rod
Eddie the only place I have ever seen anyone use a spinning rod was in Marathon in the Keys for grouper, 50lb line on a spinning reel is quite a bit of strain.
If I had to build one I would go with the GUSA blanks along with some heavy frame guides

113. Re: Milky Finish
Mark it is very rare for humidity to have any effect on epoxy, blushing as Tom mentioned does happen but very rarely, temperature yes cure time is easily changed by a few degrees. Curious if you happened to use DNA over the first coat of finish before applying the second, DNA will sometimes act as a moisture carrier and cause problems.

114. Re: Milky Finish
I have seen this happen when a rod is somehow exposed to moisture, it gets under the finish usually happens where the finish is applied improperly and air and moisture can get under it small pin holes near guide foot is the usual culprit not much to do about it short of re wrapping and applying new finish.
You can place the rod in a warm area and it may clear up but will return once rod is expos

119. Re: Cut in Blank
Harold easiest thing to do is cut a fiberglass sleeve the same size as the reel seat, thats fits over the blank glue it in place then build as normal, no one but you will ever know the difference.
