Russ I would if you don't incur additional cost try and get as close to the original as possible makes for a nice gesture and perhaps additional orders of course that's easy for me to say sitting here and not having to search for components nor do the wrapping John

Scott still comes down to the same thing only difference is those chrome brass reel seats are tough to cut through ,other option possible is to heat rear portion of seat often the glue used on the wood has dried out and can be removed easier, once that is removed it might be easier to get the blank out of the ferule you might try e-mailing Doc.Ski he knows a lot about Harrington-Harnels John

Scott normally I would say heat from a heat gun with care but at least down here many actually were fiberglassed to oversize then sanded to be a perfect fit to the unibut this made for an extremely strong bond you may have to cut the uni butt not an easy job to remove the blank maybe someone else has a better idea John

Mike I have started using it as a finish for wood pens , i wanted a finish that would cover a decal I used on some pens made I for my wifes company everyone in wood craft who have seen them think the finish is fantastic it's been about a month and thus far it looks like it was done yesterday extremely clear thin enough not to add weight yet thus far quite durable. I drove Jim and Tim Cambel a lit

Byron I agree the Jet mini is a nice little lathe the only thing is to check on what is offered during sales, the nice part is the various chucks and extended bed are easy to come by. Axminster has a very good reputation John

Rob if you are referring to very tiny in size bubbles that is generally caused through mixing, you might want to consider Swifty finish that seems to be the very best I have found with bubble release but do a search on its use as it is different John

Bill any time you have a question re security on a web site the best thing to do is call. Many times the companies have no idea as to web site problems unless someone notifies them as the sites are handled through third party hosting companies John

Marty generally speaking if it is a clear decal it will look better with a coat of finish on the blank if the decal is solid then it doesn't matter, something Tom found if you roll the decal over the blank and hold it down with rubber bands or such it tends to take the shape of the blank better and becomes easier to install, the thread Bill mentioned helps in keeping the edges from lifting John

let me just through this out, it is something rarely mentioned, from some observations it is evident that reaction time plays a big part it is not that a person doesn't feel a hit but that their reactions are slower and because they may miss the fish it becomes the rod isn't sensitive enough John

Funny thing is the companies down here who still have the ugly stik blanks are painting them black and giving them a coat of finish to have a smooth look John

Clyde if anything it shows they are a very good company as Mike said we went to them not the other way around, they sent me samples of some of their products when i gave them a very tiny order, the vast majority of their business evidently doesn't care if the product is UV protected or not Mike thanks for the update John

Marc StCroix and most other manufacturers outsource guide wrapping so you may easily find differences in quality although it should be minor because different people will be wrapping the rods When we were at Lamiglas last year we went crazy trying to find a spool of D thread all they had was A John

Michael I think before you but any lathe you really need to set down what you plan to do with it now and in the future this is difficult but turning can be as addictive as rod building. One thing I would have to have now is variable speed, I have it on my big lathe and it does save time and some aggravation, the jet variable speed is hard to beat but any of the lathes mentioned will do- you mig

Dave something I noticed in RodMaker and on your site cost replace double foot guide $10 i assume that does not include the guide cost and that should be added on the web site cost $10 plus guide, if I am not mistaken RodMaker said the price didn't include components another item it seems by quoting a specific price $45 to replace fore grip and reel seat you may well be short changing yourself

Jeff masking tape really isn't close to be the best way to arbor a reel seat for heavy rods dry wall tape is far superior. RE the flex coat arbors something to remember they were designed for use with Fuji seats and will be slightly different in size for the Batson seats, Batson has their own to fit their seats or get a larger size and sand to fit in the seats John

Scott make life easier glue in the arbors into the reel seats ahead of time, then it takes only seconds to ream them to fit with either the pilot bits or dream reamers, only thing is they cut very fast check fit often John
