I have two old glass trolling rods in for rebuild and it appears that the tips where set in position with a punch. I'm going to see if I could drill out just enough material to free them up but was wondering if anyone has seen this before and what did they do?

I generally spiral cut the top tube and peel it off the rod and install new tops after the rebuild. Heat will ruin those old solid glass blanks so go careful there.

As Tom mentioned they can be a problem I have seen some crimped on as well as glued and also have a pop rivet through the blank and tip top
