Shawn ,I do all the dogfish repairs from what I have seen they use blanks from gator glass and Forecast in both 7 & 8 ft models always best to check with the person and find out what they prefer, I agree with Scott slick butts and uni butts have there place but not when the rod is held under the arm. One other reson for the NFG style is these rods take a beating and they hold up well to the

Luis just finished the same rod and used the # 7 fuji alconite fly guides the only problem I have heard regarding the # 6 fy guides is sometimes those using braid will have a problem with knot clearance through the smaller guides, but even the # 6 guides have no problem regarding strength John

Larry I have applied decals to thread master in 12 hours sometimes less allow the decal to dry for 4 hours and apply the top coat of TM i don't use any solutions on the decals never had a problem, here is the thing with decals 24 hours is the point where any decal applied will be completley dry so 24 hours is the suggested waiting time but in reality all that is needed is a dry decal which can be

Shawn two popular models the Gator Glass T70H 7' rated 20-50 or the Batson E Glass SWB70XH 7' 25-50 coupled with the Pac Bay Twister guides not as well known as other similar models but have handled some very large Tarpon with no problems I personally would opt for an aluminum seat but the Fuji FPSH is popular also. EVA butt either 12-14 inches if used under the arm with an 8" fore grip

Bill much better to large then to small I glue the arbors into the seat do a 1/2 dozen or so at a time and have them ready, it is also easier to ream them to size this way as it can get very thin John

Paul if you got the midi lathe without the extended bed you will need to contact one of Andy's suippliers and request that the mandrels be cut to fit the midi lathe if you have the extended bed you can use the full size mandrels with a chuck and live tail stock John

If I recall correctly Ralph uses the term application when referring to applying the finish a second or third time in a limited time frame, generally under 72 hours, after that time you are applying a SECOND COAT which can react differently then applying the finish in a short time frame John

Mark Gator glass blanks are fine 1st rod to the 100th, the guide feet will sit level on the blank, you do want to make sure your wraps are packed tightly which should be done anyway, another consideration would be some of the glass Batson blanks they are sanded. John

That's funny had a steady tourist from Canada come down to Fl every winter he bought a couple of spinning rods 6-12 and 8-17rods and liked them. One year he asked if I could build him a rod for Snook from the pier as he was staying later, he decided on a 10-20 lb spinning rod- told him no problem and built him the rod. A couple of weeks later I happened to visit the pier and there he was a Penn

I don't know if it is a defect but I understand overlining a rod that is using a much heavier line then the rating calls for can cause a rod to shatter as described if a steady pressure is applied as Tom said it is almost instantanious John

Scott hit it ,most all the old custom rods were based on the Gator glass blanks the T90s and 80s were the most popular- Star rods and Chaos both used them for a while as did many other local manfacturers good inexpensive unsanded blank

As Bill said it is far better to wait as reccomended, don't want to see a bunch of post regarding waiting time and problems caused by not waiting. Alan-hard to explain but if you cut your decals on an angle you get a much flatter edge John

Tom it is the attendees who should be thanking you for a great event, two things I noticed outside the event itself was one the huge volume of blanks and components you have actually in stock and second the attitude of your employees under difficult conditions everyone was friendly and helpfull now I know why my service has always been top notch looking forward to your next open house John

Tom it sounds as if the finish is lifting off the blank, a couple of pinholes moisture gets in you get that appearance-have no idea what Dawia uses for a finish most times a mild heat source will allow you to peel off the finish. I would avoid chemical removers after the finish is removed prep the blank and use permaglos as the finish . ,note do a search tons of info available re stripping blank

Robert they were for years the main stay of Star Rods before they moved off shore still used by many companies for their finished rods, as has been described one tough blank manufactured in Miami by Gatorglass laminating, if they have any disadvantage it is they are generaly heavier then models offered by other companies, good blank good value John

I think what Scott may be referring to is if the finish starts to thicken in the mixing container you can use mild heat to the remainder to make it thin enough to continue working with it, this works for a small area but as was mentioned it will also quicken the curing process, developing speed in applying or mixing smaller batches is really the best alternative John
