Col on any flat finish blank you must apply a thin coat of finish where you want the decal to reside it will look terrible without that CP problems many are caused by not packing the threads tight enough, numerous coats of CP will not work properly if there are minute gaps in the thread John

Joe if you are referring to a gap under the cork where it meets the blank you can drill a very small hole in the cork, take a syringe filed with liquid adhesive, like flex coat rod building glue, and fill the gap using the syringe a little cork filler to cover the whole and you are done when the adhesive cures. depending on the number of voids it may be necessary to do this in a couple of spots

Tom the more I think about this the more I doubt any kind of tip repair is possible, you fail to state the type of rod and if it is 1 or 2 piece. i believe overall if you can get the drill bit out of the lower section, you might try Acetone the primary ingredient in debonder to remove it I would simply move the guides to reduce the stress on the blank just like building a new rod and put a tip on

First I think I would have a few words with the repair person, what he did is totally wrong and caused further damage I doubt at this point the 2" top section can be repaired it might be possible to use a section of blank from a different rod blank use an oversleeve on the rear portion and the 2" tip section, i assume the drill bit is stilled glued into the butt section if so you could

And old reply from Ralph as true today as when he first posted this Posted by: Ralph O'Quinn (---.pstbbs.com) Date: September 28, 2002 04:40AM Ed You won't make your epoxy (or any resin polymer or otherwise) stronger by adding fillers of any kind. There are fillers that will make the resin more flexible, fillers that will make it more brittle, fillers to withstand abrasion, fillers to inc

Wess if he has a 532 the lami MB1083M is close very nice blank as Ken said not quite the same though the Harringtons had much thicker walls the SB 121 3M at 10" with some trimming might be closer to the 542 much depends on what he has again as Ken said check with Todd at Mudhole

Not that I consider myself in the old group HA HA but another thought should you not be able to find an apprentice is to take a total inventory of everything from tools, lathes and components get a wholesale, a retail price and what you would consider a fair price for the lot and let your family know where the inventory list is located. I and I know others have often been contacted when someon

Curt all that is Necessary is make sure the guide foot is prepared properly that said I would use an underwrap on heavy off shore rods in addition if you should decide to sell at some point make sure to ask the buyer if he wants them as they are quite common and many expect to have them in addition they can offer a chance to how off some nice thread work which may increase sales John

I think you will find it depends on what type of agreement the manufacturer and retailer have regarding the sale of the blanks, we are fortunate that in most cases the retailers take back blanks they sell but some manufacturers insist that all warranty claims be sent to them, and in the end it is the manufacturer is the final word in regards to warranty issues John

I agree with Tom sounds like moisture got under the wraps often if you put the rod in a warm dry area you will see the finish clear up in a few days and go back to looking normal, if this occurs it is almost definitely moisture under the wrap

I was speaking to one of the local tackle shops this AM and it appears the new Penn 113H2 reels have a wider reel foot and will not fit most reel seats. I would advise if a customer plans on using this reel to check and make sure the reel seat you plan to use will fir it John

Makes sense but it was uncommon to me. I have seen heat boil finish another type mess but all indications are you being correct it definitely must be more brittle, I am surprised the upper guides seem fine. Note rod is glass about 30lb class with the old style perfection type boat rod guides, I really don't think he will be able to afford the repair at any rate LOL thanks John
