I've had problems with permagloss over decals. Be careful the solvent can cause problems. Test first! Ed Smith Flat Rock, NC

I love my St. Croix 3S76MLF. But I got it from Merrick. Paid less than $100. for it. You need to contact one of the sponsors on the left to see if you can get a discount. Ed Smith Flat Rock, NC

The Batson IP841 is similar to the Mudhole rod but I'm not sure they have it in 2 pc. I've built several IP841 one pc and they are fine. You may also look at the St. Croix 3S70 series. I am almost certain they come in two pc. Ed Smith Flat Rock, NC

I have had success by appling a coat of permagloss over epoxy that was cracked. Looked like new, but don't know if it lasted. Haven't heard back from the customer in over a year. Ed Smith Flat Rock, NC

This looks like something similar to some thread I got off of @#$%&. I don't think this is thread that was was made for rodbuilding. Lesspn learned: Use only thread made for rodbuilding from the sponsors. Ed Smith Flat Rock, NC

I like the Cason's solvent base on darker thread and American Talkle water base on lighter colors. I always use two coats of CP minimum, followed by at least one coat of Permagloss/Lumiseal. Then epoxy. I do agree the old Gudebrod 811 was the best! Ed Smith Flat Rock, NC

From my personel point of view I like the Prowrap or Fishhak since Gudebrod is not avaliable. I don't like Maderia, It is colorful but I find it hard to work with. Thank goodness I got a good stock of Gudebrod! Ed Smith Flat Rock, NC

John, Is that your work dog? Bring the dog to the show. I would love to see it go after one nerd dressed like a wizard. I know he would take teh seat out of Billy's pants. They may need your assistance in removing him from the hotel lobby. I understand he likes to camp in them. Ed Smith Flat Rock, NC

Denatured alcohol is 5% methanol and 95% ethanol. This methanol is what is toxic. This the way that the US Government cannot collect the taxes on ethanol.. If you can get 190 proof alcohol (Everclear) it would work just as well. Ed Smith

American Tackle has a metallic orange that is almost a perfect match. Also old Gudebode NCP orange is a good match too. I was raised 15miles from Knoxville and have built several TN rods for High School friends Personally, I would not send my Dog to UT. I stinks. . Just go down by Fort Loudon Lake back of the stadium and inhale. I wemt tp school there enough to know! My sister got two deg

I have build many on the Batson IP 840. Several on the SC 3S70ulf and one on the SC 3S76mlf. I like them all!. I personally like the 7ft rods. Depending on what you can get at the lowest price I would pick the Batson first. I am going to look at the Mudhole S841 when I get to High Point. I think it is the same as the IP 840. Sometime I have thought I could cast a fly on them!. Ed Smith

I did some analysis on the Swifty finish several years ago. It is not and epoxy but a Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) The catalyst was benzyl alcohol. If it is cloudy, you might try appling a coat of permagloss or lumiseat to the finish. I have never tryed this with the Swifty finish so I cannot assure you it will work but it sure works with epoxy. PVA with the benzyl alchol whould be compatbly with

I hate to see Permagloss being phased out. This is just one more step the Government is phasing out Chemicals. I am glad I made the decision to retire from the chemical industry. Warning:: no telling what is next. These water base replacements will not be as "hard" as Permagloss. I saw some of these water base replacements in High Point and was not impressed! Permagloss and Lumise

Thanks Cheng. I suspected that some of the newer reels would fit. It sounds like these reel seats are not compatible with all reels. I've got so many rods and reels, I don't know when to stop building them for myself. You can only fish so many lines at one time. I think I have two rods for every reel that have built for my son and myself.. I am going to try a Shimano Stradic on this one.

I completed a PacBay minima spinning reel seat only to discover that the foot of my old (50 yrs +) Mitchel 308 would not fit under the rear seat. Front is OK. (This is also true of an even older Mitchell 300) I then found an old fly reel and it fit fine! If I want to use these reels on this seat I'll need to grind down the rear foot of the reel. I hope some of my newer Shimono reels, wh
