Crazed/Cracked Epoxy Wraps - NEED HELP

Picked up an older Sage RPLXi rod and most of the epoxy over the ferrules and guide wraps is crazed (small "spider" cracks) likley from extended UV exposure (I think).
Anyways, I wanted to put a thin coat of Flex Coat ove the wraps to make them look shiny and new again and had a couple of questions: - Do I sand/roughen-up the old epoxy with a light abrasive sandpaper or just prep it by removing the any dust or grease with alchohol? - Flex Coat high build or thin? Any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Also, there is small chip in the paint which has exposed the blank. I was thinking of just epoxying over this too. It doesn't look look like the graphite was damaged. I greatly appreciate your help! -Tony P. Re: Crazed/Cracked Epoxy Wraps - NEED HELP

I would clean them with some alcohol, let dry and then lightly scuff with Scotchbrite. Any areas that are lifting or peeling off might as well be picked and pulled off now. Then put a thin coat of your finish on top. It will shine things up a bit and maybe give you another few seasons but remember that as the original finish continues to go bad it will mess with the new stuff on time at some point down the road. If it's not too bad you may be okay for a long, long time.
If the chip is just in the surface paint the blank itself should be okay. Re: Crazed/Cracked Epoxy Wraps - NEED HELP

I have had success by appling a coat of permagloss over epoxy that was cracked. Looked like new, but don't know if it lasted. Haven't heard back from the customer in over a year.
