Minima Reel Seats and Mitchel Reels

I completed a PacBay minima spinning reel seat only to discover that the foot of my old (50 yrs +) Mitchel 308 would not fit under the rear seat. Front is OK. (This is also true of an even older Mitchell 300) I then found an old fly reel and it fit fine! If I want to use these reels on this seat I'll need to grind down the rear foot of the reel. I hope some of my newer Shimono reels, which are at my Santeetlah Lake cottage, will fit. Lesson learned: Make sure the reel will fit the seat before you glue things up.

I've had trouble with Ardent baitcasters not fitting well in the casting seat version.

Ed,
There were some earlier posts where people got reels to fit by modifying the rear piece with a dremel tool and burr to open it up a bit.

Ed,
You were just looking for an excuse to get a new reel to match the rod.
Many of my clients buy a new reel to match a new rod.

Good luck and enjoy.

Thanks Cheng. I suspected that some of the newer reels would fit. It sounds like these reel seats are not compatible with all reels. I've got so many rods and reels, I don't know when to stop building them for myself. You can only fish so many lines at one time. I think I have two rods for every reel that have built for my son and myself.. I am going to try a Shimano Stradic on this one.
