Lily won't have that one. But that one is very easy to make. Get the wire and some needle nose pliers and go to work. Now, here's what usually breaks them - when you cut your thread at the end of the wrap the spring will unleash and slam down into or onto the carriage. Do this a few hundred times and eventually it'll break from "shock." This is why spinning reel bail springs br

When you look through your mixing cup, you're looking through a great thickness. On the wraps, it won't be that thick. Someone here once mentioned how beer is amber when looking at it through a glass. But if you pour out a little on the counter, it's clear. It has to do with the thickness you're peering through. ..........

17643. Re: Cork
There is an easier way to do it. Read the FAQs page (See FAQ #20) on installing EVA - it's quick, easy and not hard to clean up. It works with both EVA and cork, although with cork you need to ream/bore the grip so that you aren't forcing or stretching it into place. You'll split cork if you attempt to stretch it. ............

You might remind him that a "Lifetime Warranty" does not necessarily mean that broken rods will be replaced. Broken and defective are often 2 entirely different things. Depends on what the rod was warranteed against - defects or breakage. ...........

By crystal clear, they mean to mix until it is no longer cloudy. The coloration is something altogether different. All epoxy hardeners tend to turn amber or yellow over a few weeks or months. Some are worse than others in this regard. Once you apply the epoxy to your wraps, you shouldn't notice the slight amber color unless you're working with white or very light colored threads. ..........

I've made some for others, never broken one myself (there is a reason why they break). Not hard to make but you'll have to find some good spring steel wire about .040 diameter. Is yours the one with the small white nylon roller on it, or does it have a pigtail? ..............

My experience has been exactly the opposite - the so called "bridge" guides do not fit well in-between the regular spinning and fly type guides. I see no real practical purpose for them, but if others do, so be it. ..............

It wouldn't matter if the rod got softer or not. If the line is hitting the butt guide frame, then the butt guide is in the wrong position for that reel. .............

Most now use the newer solvent based archival inks. This is the major problem with the decal media - it's not made for modern ink jet printers. The article mentioned that the company is working on newer media that will work with modern printers. .............

17650. Re: ferules
The problem would be that any time you suddenly change the blank's properties in any area you risk failure. If the piece you're sliding over the butt isn't at least similar, you risk a failure at that point. A thin walled blank slid over a thick walled blank, or vice versa, in similar materials and diameters in a location that is expected to see a good amount of flex may not be your best recipe

On the frame of the butt guide? Per the width reel you have, the butt guide has been located in the wrong position. The overall geometry isn't likely to have changed, so this has probably been going on since the rod was built. You just now began to notice it. If you recently switch to a wider reel, that would explain why it wasn't happening previously. .................

I'm not sure quite what you're asking. Are you talking about a couple or a few rod builders swapping some parts with each other? Or a commercial enterprise bringing items to the event to sell to customers outside the door? The first is not a problem. The second would be. .................

17655. Cork
While working with Morris Schlesinger last week on preparations for his wood turning seminars at the Expo, I took some cork for him to look over. Although he's a talented and well known turner, he's never turned cork so he wanted to practice on some before the actual event. The funny thing, is that he was kicking out the CG1 rings - the clear ones that were mostly free of pits and holes. He w

17656. Re: guides
Many guides now feature rings that are swaged or inset into the frame. This makes them somewhat more difficult to knock out, but they'll still crack if you whack them hard enough. Pacific Bay has introduced some metal matrix rings that are very hardy, but I can't say for sure what type lines they'll hold up to. If you're at the Expo this weekend talk to Vic Cutter about them. ...........

Steve, What I was saying was that we make sure the articles contain all the little extra tips and tricks that often and usually do spell the difference between success and failure. You may still need to practice the technique, of course, but you won't generally run into any surprises or otherwise difficulties if you have the proper information in front of you the first time around. Even heated epoxy has micro bubbles left in it. The difference in clarity can be seen, or I should say noticed, by the naked eye, even though the micro bubbles can't be. The precise, slow, mechanical mixed batch will be brighter and clearer nearly every time. .............

Denis, You'll notice that Bill Colby spelled it out pretty well in the article - he said that you could even use strong pressure from a thumb or finger to disturb the wraps and move the thread in different directions. We didn't leave it just at "burnishing," we spelled out what you had to do and why it was important. ....................

Torin, Your point is well taken and certainly valid, however, I think you read Karry's post out of context a bit. The folks at Batson Enterprises are not insisting that anyone follow their specs when building a rod. Rather, they have spent time and energy to make things easier for the first time builder who may find this whole rod building affair to be a somewhat daunting task. We want them

Nothing wrong with jumping in head first, but sometimes you land in shallow water or hit your head on a rock. If you follow the instructions in RodMaker, you're guaranteed to get perfect results on your first try. I wish I could try to help you correct what you have now, but I'm not familiar with that particular method. ..........................

I never worry about the weather here - that doesn't really matter. It's what happens elsewhere in the Country that can cause travel problems. There are winter storms now predicted for the midwest by mid-week. I keep my fingers crossed that they won't interfere with anyone's travel plans. ............
