Chafing nylon

I am having a problem with some of my rods
These are 80lb chair rods that we have had for 10 years or so..with Shimano Tiagra 80Ws

while setting the drag recently there was an area of the nylon that was being consistently damaged

what I noticed was that if the tip of the rod was flexed left or right the nylon would rub on the stripper guide [Aftco Bigfoot]
it may also be possible that it was rubbing on the tip but did seem that way

anybody have any ideas, we have not noticed this happening before.

On the frame of the butt guide? Per the width reel you have, the butt guide has been located in the wrong position. The overall geometry isn't likely to have changed, so this has probably been going on since the rod was built. You just now began to notice it.

If you recently switch to a wider reel, that would explain why it wasn't happening previously.

same equipment as original, think you may be right about not noticing it before

do you think the tip of the rod got softer?

i know that there a probably about a million or more rods built with the Bigfoot guides so they should not be the problem

I was thinking about re wrapping the rod with the winthrop guides as the frames appear to be wider

It wouldn't matter if the rod got softer or not. If the line is hitting the butt guide frame, then the butt guide is in the wrong position for that reel.
