I just got done looking at Jeff Shafer's reel seat in the picture gallery. I have been doing reel seats using epoxy to fill the grain and following with 6 coats of Tru-Oil. I know that Perma-Gloss is about as tough a finish as there is and I think Jeff''s reel seat looks fantastic. How about filling grain when using Perma-Gloss? Any tips Jeff? Sanding sealer to fill the grain and then PermaGloss. BirchWood Casey makes a grain filler/sealer for use under Tru-Oil and this works very well.

The wood pictured is a very dense wood, and after final wood sanding had no pores to speak of. I don't have sanding sealer on hand but on a few occasions have used CA and sanding dust to seal pores or voids on the surface. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
