The Expo site was hacked as well. A few really don't like this forum or the Expo.
I am working on the Expo site and will have it back up shortly. It wasn't damaged nearly as bad as this forum.

18513. Expo Hotel Rooms
I spoke with the sales manager at the Radisson a few moments ago. They have made another 25 rooms available for our block. But this will be it. If you plan to stay directly across the street from the Showplace facility, this will be your last chance to do so. I do not expect these 25 rooms to last the week, if even a couple days.
Make sure to mention you are coming in for the International Cu

18515. Re: some thoughts
Iighter is generally better, however weight savings in terms of bettering rod performance has a great deal to do with where along the rod you save that weight. Reducing even a little weight on the rod tip results in immediate and easily realized performance gains in a number of areas. A lighter reel, or reel seat, grip, etc., also pays dividends, but not as huge owing to the location where the w

The mold you purchased was not part of the article. The foam is not intended to be used in a captive mold. Per the foam manufacturer's instructions, it's not recommended
Having said that, you can confer with Scott on how he's using such a mold and what you can do with it..

No volunteers. But Ian and Wendy did a good job getting things back in order.

Brandon,
The article in RodMaker showed a non-captive mold - there is no cap. I suggest you read it again.

18519. Radisson Sold out
I was informed tonight that our entire block of rooms for the 2009 Rod Expo has sold out. A call to the Radisson has confirmed this.
I will try tomorrow to obtain more rooms, but it is possible that the entire hotel is now sold out. I will have that information after 8AM tomorrow morning.
In the meantime, you may find optional hotel rooms via the official event website at www.rodexpo.com.

18520. Re: Engraving
Unless you have a very heavy walled blank and confined your engraving to the extreme butt, you would be destroying the blank.
Modern graphite blanks are made with very little margin for error - engraving into the surface of the blank is a recipe for disaster.

I would steer you to the article in RodMaker Magazine on forming foam grips. With the method presented there, you are not confining the foam and will receive the density listed on the foam component kit.
What you have done with the mold, is confine the foam into a closed container which will result in a much heavier than required grip. The 8lb foam only delivers that density when used in a no

18522. Forum Hacked
Sometime Friday morning this forum was hacked. My personal account was deleted and contents of various members posts have disappeared. If you notice that something you posted seems to have lost its content, it was due to the activity of the person/s involved in this hack.
At least one user had their password reset and administrative functions added, most likely so the hackers could get back

18523. Re: Stabilizing wood
If you do a search here I think you can find that information. I know some users were melting plastic and using that as their stabilizing medium.
Maybe somebody that has done it more lately can help. Also, Stephen at reelseatblanks.com probably has some experience with that sort of thing.

It's really just a matter of aesthetics. Most commercially made fly rods in the light to mid line weight categories utilize reverse half wells grips which mate well to uplocking seats. The hooded cork is favored by fly fishermen and the makers respond by giving them what they want.

Bill,
The board is safe now.
I can't say when other features such as the text alignment will be back to normal. That isn't our priority at the moment.

18527. Re: Short tuna stick
A shorter blank will reduce the fish's leverage advantage on you. This allows you to whip him more quickly and do without the need for a fighting chair.
I would advise you to carefully consider the type fighting harness you'll be using prior to building the rod. The location of the reel seat and butt length depend entirely on the harness you'll use.

18528. Re: Impact on Hook Setting
Jim,
For the record, some of your posts have gone missing. This is from the hacker attack yesterday. The content is still disappearing from many users' posts. There is a script running that is eating up quite a bit of content.

18529. Re: Impact on Hook Setting
If you think that any of the folks here that relayed their personal experiences to the effect that they get a better hook set with a longer rather than a shorter rod are concocting stories simply to align with my own experience, well... you do indeed owe them an apology. It is tantamount to calling them either fools or liars. Neither of which any of them deserve.
You can believe what you want
