I have been making decals for over a decade - RodMaker has run previous articles on making decals on ink jet printers. None of the decals I've made with either dye based or solvent based decals have faded in the years I've had them on my rods, and that would be pushing 10 years now. Anything will fade and/or degrade if given enough time in UV light, but this isn't much of an issue for decal us

Unfortunately, show prices are just that - show prices. If these prices were standard, then there is less need to have such an event. Although I'm sure there will be some deals available come February 23rd. The EcoWrapper manufacturer isn't a sponsor, but he does exhibit at the Expo. Sold completely out last year and had to take orders. It's a very nice wooden unit - non powered. ........

Many companies are now offering seats that are intended to be used without a foregrip, such as the Pac Bay Minima type. As such, they now also offer very neat aluminum caps to finish off the front of the seat. ...........

Without CP, the thread will turn translucent and very dark. When you put your finish on there, it will brighten back up a bit. Keep in mind, that Maderia is not specialty rod wrapping thread. It will work, but it's not made for this task. .............

When you don't take the magazine it's hard to really stay abreast of all that's happening in the rod building world. A decal is just a decal, but these are few steps beyond mere decals. .............

That's very true, but we did it the other way for the last 5 years and due to the larger and larger crowds each year and the fact that many vendors wanted to stay open later on Saturday this year, we'd thought we give Friday night a go. ...................

No reason at all. In fact, you may remember that Steve Gardner makes his TN handles that way. It also allows you to rest your thumb easily on the rod blank just ahead of the seat, if you want to use a "no-foregrip" set up. .................

We sold more rooms and more room nights at the Radisson (Hotel High Point) for the Expo than at any previous event. Although we're over our block and the hotel is nearly full, the sales manager there told me just a few minutes ago that they do still have a few available rooms and would be willing to sell them at the special Expo rate. I don't know how many rooms we'd be talking, probably not

3 wrappers will be given away at the Reception, a Renzetti, A Forecast and an EcoWrapper. All the various machines, excepting the Custom Power Wrap, are on display and available for sale at the Expo. There are usually special show prices or some other piece of equipment thrown in. You'll just have to search the aisles and find the best bargain. ..............

And it's just as easy to go to your local sporting goods store and buy a fishing rod rather than make one. This isn't for everbody - and Decal Connection isn't going to lose any business over it. But just as some buy preformed grips and others choose to make their own, there is a certain freedom and opportunity for artistic creation in this technique that many craftsman will revel in. ....

FishHawk Thread has been around a long time and it's not known for those problems. I use it and have never had problems with blotchiness or anything else for that matter. You may simply have gotten a bad spool or 2, just like happens with the Gudebrod from time to time. Send it back to Robbie Smith at Fish Hawk, direct, and explain the situation. Robbie is probably the first thread supplier

Dura-Brite, as well as the other archival ink types, will puddle on the metallic and holographic papers as noted in the article. There is a work around for this, also noted in the article, and the company says they are working on newer media types that will be compatible with the newer type solvent based inks. .............

Try putting this request on the buy/sell/trade page so it will hang around in front of people a bit longer. A couple of people have told me that they weren't able to put things up on the buy/sell page recently, although this is most likely only a problem with older browsers of a certain type. Give it a try and see if it'll go up for you. .................

I heard you the first time. Dale Clemens was involved in the rod building craft from a business/profit perspective. I am not. I stated at the outset of publishing RodMaker that I would never compete with the rod building component supply dealers by offering or selling rod building products of any kind. I've remained true to that promise and don't plan to change anything. The book I wrote wa

Unlike wood glues, epoxy assemblies don't require clamp pressure for strength - you just want the gap closed for appearance purposes. I think the rod itself, when straight, will apply enough pressure to do that. If not, then a cork clamp could be used. I don't think I'd use water on anything there. ...............

You can taper them nicely with a flat file. Remember, most files cut in one direction only. So don't saw back and forth - take long smooth strokes across the end of the foot until you have almost a knife edge. Then use crocus or find emery paper to smooth the edge and bottom. In past issues of RodMaker we've compared the various methods for shaping guide feet. One of the easiest is to use a be

No, finish does not hide imperfections - it magnifies them. That hump will also cause premature checking/cracking at the edge of the guide foot. Remove it and prepare it to a shallow taper. A year from now, you'll be glad you did. Don't worry about what you sent in the "kit." You'll do better with your own testing and set up. Sounds like you're already on that track now. Any g

I'd go with something such as Herb suggests. You should be able to slip a card or thin spatula into the opening and get some epoxy in there. Or, put some in a syringe and inject it into that opening. It won't take much. Allow the blank to unflex and the cork will close on itself - that's all the clamping pressure you need. Wipe the outside of the cork with some alcohol and watch it for any

The finish is treated to the same type trip regardless of what type of dryer you employ. Most companies that need maximum drying capacity per the space and "pieces" use drum type units. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
