I'm fairly new to the rod building seen. I just bought the Flex Coat high build ultra v from a store in Houston. One of the bottles (I believe the resin) is a honey color and the other is clear. When the two are combined and mixed thoroughly it is still a slight honey color. On the flex coat website it says that finish should mix "crystal clear". Am I doing something wrong? Did I buy the wrong stuff? Or maybe is there something wrong with the product?

By crystal clear, they mean to mix until it is no longer cloudy. The coloration is something altogether different. All epoxy hardeners tend to turn amber or yellow over a few weeks or months. Some are worse than others in this regard.

Once you apply the epoxy to your wraps, you shouldn't notice the slight amber color unless you're working with white or very light colored threads.

Put it on black thread, you'll never know the difference.

Yea, I didn't notice the amber color after applied it, but I was worried about the color showing because I am using a lot of white on this rod.

When you look through your mixing cup, you're looking through a great thickness. On the wraps, it won't be that thick.

Someone here once mentioned how beer is amber when looking at it through a glass. But if you pour out a little on the counter, it's clear. It has to do with the thickness you're peering through.
