I have the resin research it worked well, it is made for surf boards so the UV shoudl be very good it dried crystal clear. and is very hard and strong. My only gripe about it was the oder. Since selling my house I am in a small place for now and dont have extra rooms or a garage or basement to escape it. Then again everything has a bad oder when you have to breath it for to long. So I wont be

Thanks Billy and anyone else who was invovled in putting this together, I enjoyed it very much. I think the NERBS needs their own forums tho since we have very specific kinds of fishing and rod building needs here in the north east.

How long does it take for the light version to become fully hardened? I ushually use it only as my first coat for easy bubble release. Then cover it with some other brand or type. Also my customers take the rods so i dont have it long enough to find out.

Well the fuji carded guide set kits are the easiest thing to use and the sizes they pick out for you are very nice, they make for a perfect transition when you look at the rod as a whole. the line path looks nice and straight. the guide heights dont jump dramatically from one to the the next. This helps for resale if you ever going to try and sell the rod. A rod with only a few guide sizes loo

the 1.5 is fine for the sizes you are going for.... I do the reaming after I have the sleeve on and finished. Its not very hard to ream out the end with the fibers in them. Just dont soak the holes with resin and create a deep clog..

1st and 3rd guides are 9 1/4" apart. What is missing that makes this not a simple spiral now?

Good luck passing a knot past that red circled area.. Notice how low the frame is on the bumper guide. Same reason why when I run braid past these guides it sounds like a saw cutting when using a lure with any kind of load to it. There is some presure on the bumper guide from the angles the line is running on obviously from the 1st and 3rd guide pulling the the line in towards the blank.. This cr

If your passing a big knot I think there are much better methods of spiral wrapping to use than the simple spiral version. Thats a pretty severe angle at the bumper guide for a large knot to get past. The knot has no chance of sneaking past the bumper guide at all without knocking it no matter how low the frame.

Anyone here able to paint a blank for a fellow rod builder? I tried to go the commercial route and after 14 weeks of waiting for the blank there seems to be no end to the wait. I was informed by one of sponsors here it could take up to 9 months to a year. please email if you can do it. Thanks!

Searched and searched for this answer. I must not have beenn using the correct key words. I know that normal guides size designations are not the actual ID of the ring. But alot of posts are refering to micro guides, like 3mm, 2.5mm, 1mm etc etc When said this way is the writer refering to the ID of the ring or the guides model number size? Im finding it hard to believe without ever seein

I guess this test has something to do with the casting distance and the micro guides? Could you tell me if the micro guides make a difference with a more powerful rod. Something rated to throw 1/2 oz or so like big crank baits. And more importantly could you tell us the increase in distances you have obseved in real numbers depending on what you were casting. 10' 20' 30' ? Thanks so much! And I a

Those handle kits are $100 or more... Yikes.. And then on top of that the company Matagi choose to exclusively distribute their products in the US doesnt keep good stock on alot his stuff even just simple things as the winding checks. Matagi orders in the US get filled in 3 months if your lucky. This happend to me twice the first time I waited 3 months the second time I never got the parts after

Hmmm if the grip needs to move back and forth with the aluminum check sliding back and forth over the thread it needs to be over sized by more than 1mm (1mm is only for bare thread and a stationary glued down check) the thread FINISH thickness comes into the factor now. If its like the rod in this picture, its reverse of what you are doing but same principle with the grip locking down the ree

Yeah I would go .5 mm bigger than whatever is measured. The gap will be very small since it is divided around the blank so you will have a space of .25mm which is nothing. when you use a oversized winding check by .5 If you plan on putting it over thread you need to go 1mm bigger which is what I do, looks really nice with accent thread. see link...

Either call the place that is selling you the blank and ask them to measure it where ever you intend the winding checks to end up. Or wait till the blank comes and measure it yourself you will need a caliper or some kind of measuring device there is no other way if you want them to fit nicely.

I have held and built both both these blanks and for the money in my opinion the RX7 wins, it felt less tip heavy than the RX8. The butt diameters seems to tell the tale, both blansk weight the same. I am not impressed with the RX8+ version. Id go with the RX7. Maybe the RX8+ carbon scrim makes it stronger? I dont know but, I have not broken a RX7 nor heard of them being broken in any quantity s

I built myself a super light weight flippin stick. I started with the Batson RX8+C865 7"2 the blank weights 2.5 onces. You can not find a lighter weight blank with the amount of power this blank has. I used titanium AT guides single foot as my main guides and fuji titan fly guides to save weight, a modified fuji handle something like a rich forhan light modification. Sumo glue instead of e

How about a CAMO varigated 4 color, brown, black, white, green. Something no one has thought of yet. I think in half inch or 1 inch increments this would make things look as if it were wrapped in camo.

Anything in the Loomis MB series are bass rods. The MB 783 and the MB 843 are the most versitile bass rods in my opinion. cants go wrong with these. IMX or GLX be great if your looking for very high end stuff.
