Matagi does make the piece between the grips in carbon fiber and kevlar (its a 15mm ID tube). I have never heard of an add on piece of kevlar that will extend up to the first guides. I think that is part of the japanese blanks and not somethign that can be added on. I have often thought of trying to use carbon fiber cloth or kevlar to wrap the blank in to get this effect one wrap of this cloth wi

302. Re: Camera's anyone?
Look no futher, I had this same dilema, for christmas i wanted to get a camera for my girlfriend. I went here and figured out by their recommendations the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ3 was the best and easiest to use camera for under $200. I was looking for easy, since she knows nothing about cameras. This is just point and shoot takes good pictures no matter what, in darkness, to much light, moving s

Thanks guys, I tested it on something I painted days ago it melted the paint. So now I have a problem :/ . Is the Crystal Clear tough enough to just use as is or does it need permagloss over it to be durable enough for the fishing world?

I want to paint some accent on a rod.. like this one here.
I have some permagloss. I would like to coat the paint with the perma to protect the paints . Would perma be ok for this or will it melt the paint or something. I was going to use lacquer and enamel hobby type paints.
Thanks all!

I dont want to rain on your parade or be a party pooper but your gona build some expensive rods it seems. Since you dont have alot of fishing expirence I would wait to build those rods until you do have it. Theres some things here no one can tell but yourself. Like how long you like the grip to be on a particular rod for lets say a flipping stick or even how long of a flipping stick you like at a

308. Re: Reel seat sizes
The nut you are asking about is the KDPS16 I believe ACK has them I dont think they are a US domestic product anymore but still made and sold for the japanese market.
The seat you can simply ask the rod blank vendor to measure out for you once you know at what point you want it mounted. If you have the blank already you will have to measure it yourself, a caliper or some kind of cicular siz

309. Re: sabaki rod
It sounded like you were asking about the rod more than anything. Cabelas has a rod like this, its called the Innercast or something liek that name. You can see it on their website. I believe Daiwa was the one of the first to try and popularize a rod like this years ago. If you wanted to build one fuji makes the parts to do it (special guide that sends the line into the blank and the special tipt

Thank you all for taking the time to look and help me out, I am very new to rod building and all the suggestions help and I learned so much from this one thread.

I am kinda scared to use such high modulus blank for such a technique. Surely there are less brittle rods that are also lightweight?

Does anyone know what is the lightest weight flipping stick blank. I have some problems with my wrists and would love to build myself the lightest weight flipping stick I can.
This rod would be used on 3/4 - 1.0oz bass jigs while mat crashing in the heaviest of weeds somewhere in the range of 7' - 7' 6". I wouldnt mind using tricks like cutting down longer rods.
I basically want a li

I have the IS781 mounted with a daiwa pixy finese bait caster i have use this rod for a full season now and love the blank. Its light weight and powerful very stiff tip and action. One draw back I feel is the rateings seem to be over estimated to me. Everything seems to be one size or half size more powerful than rated by batson. I also have the ISJ781 and the IS780 i have not built on these blan

Was just wondering, can anyone come to the show?
I am in the process of ordering matagi parts. Whats the difference if I ordered straight from matagi? I see ordering information for US customers right on their site.
As oposed to ordering from lets say a 3rd party that can get what ever I want from merrick. I mean hey this stuff now has touched 3 hands before it gets to me Wont the markup

May I ask what file format they will be on CD and will they be in color?
Emailed you on the back issue problem..

Bravo!
A sugestion, a pay per download system of back issues would be the ultimate. And of course being able to download an entire CD would great to for multiple issues. In this day an age of technology it is certainly possible. No more waiting for snail mail!
PS: I ordered a back issue about two weeks ago how long do they ushually take to be recieved? LOL

Thanks for the replys guys.
Would using a number 10 butt guide be to small and choke the line on a cast ? These rods will use a very low profile baitcaster reel and 6# line. It seems the 12 alconite's frame is to high to let the line drop down in a straight line (angle) towards the next guide.

322. Bumper wrap help..
HIya all, This is my first post here just wanted to say hello and thank Tom for putting out such a great mag!
Anyways I need some help with bumper wrap, mainly the guide placement. It seems I should set the butt guide as a normal baitcaster guide then just flip the next guide down. what size guides should these two be? The baitcaster I am setting up is for a light bass fishing. I would like to
