Casting rods

I've only built fly and spinning rods .. now my sis is marrying a bass fisherman .. the kind you see on the TV Bass Tournaments tossing plugs in the weeds and yanking out bass. Sis is also enjoys fishing. Thinking of building them a matching set of bass rods for their wedding gift. But I don't know much about what bass fishermen use for throwing the plugs they use. Can you help?

Rod specs? (length, lure weight to cast, action, etc)
Grip, reel seat and guide options?
Does a spiral guide set-up make sense for a bass rod?

Any good references you could refer me to?

Thanks in advance.

Wayne

Anything in the Loomis MB series are bass rods. The MB 783 and the MB 843 are the most versitile bass rods in my opinion. cants go wrong with these. IMX or GLX be great if your looking for very high end stuff.

You may want to find out what kind of fishing he prefers to do. I know you said bass, but odds are he has a rod for each type of lure/style of bass fishing he does. Im a bass guy and almost never have less than 6 rods in the boat, each rigged differently. Find out what he prefers, finesse(shakey head or drop shot), jig, crankbait, worm, senko, carolina rig, spinner bait, etc and then Im sure someone here can help.

Wayne Hofer,
Are you the same Wayne Hofer that won a Batson blank of there choice at the ICRBE last weekend? I would recommend building on the RX8+ bass blanks offered by Batson Enterprises - Rainshadow/Forecast / ALPS ( Especially since you have a free one coming). But like Rick said >find out his favorite technique to pick the exact blank you need (we have over 100 Bass blank models to choose from - in stock). If you have any questions please feel free to contact us directly>>

Wayne;
I suggest going will Mr. Batsons advise whether you are the one who won the blank or not.
What part of the country does he fish in? That will provide some additional info that may support you in blank Selection.

Whether he spends most of his time on upland reservoirs or lowland reservoirs can make a big difference in blank selection.

The RX8+ blanks by Batson are awesome!

Bill and Steve

I am the same W. Hofer and am planning to use my "award" for the blank. My future brother in law does not fish competitively, and mostly bass ponds and the Delta here in the Sacramento region. I'll give you a call Bill.

Then I would stay away form the lighter stuff and look at building him a rod suitable for swim baits or maybe flipping and pitching jigs. Lots of big bruiser bas in that area. And lots of grass to fight them out of.

Hi Wayne
I bass fish alot and would go with the RX8+783C.
I have one and really like it for jigs.
That would be a top line rod and midwest stocks them and we have free shipping.
