I just built on a 10' 6" Breakaway Omega blank and my butt guide is a BYAG 30, approximately 36" from the spool. It's a little further than I would normally put it, but I was dealing with ferrule issues and after test casting it worked better than a 40 further back. I am using a VS 250 with 50# braid and it casts like a rocket. This is the layout.

Kevin, same veneer as the vinegar soak or a different type. About to order some and if it's different I might wait and check out this method.

I can't think of anything in particular to stay away from, quite the opposite actually. It seems like there is a use for most any blank. Guys have had great success with bargain basement blanks and others with top of the line. If you're looking to build a rod for a specific use post what you're looking for and I'm sure you will get enough recommendations to get started.

Bill, I was going to suggest the Big Show BB2 , but I couldn't remember the numbers and I couldn't find it on the site. I bought one from the show and unfortunately I had my dad take it to SC to his house, so I couldn't go downstairs and check. At least now I know I'm not losing my mind, LOL.

Capt Neil, as usual it was great to see you and Brad Baker, regardless if it was in the bar, the show or in the lobby of the hotel. I agree with your assessment of the show. Being my first time the ICRBE more than met my expectations. It was amazing to see the amount of product on the floor and have the ability to talk and pick the minds of some of the best in the business. I did end up picki

Sean, I have some ss wire for plug building. Not sure of the diameter, .060 or something like that. It bends pretty easily. I can bring a piece to HP if you want. I think my luggage is like 20 -24" I can cut a piece to fit. Let me know.

Will any of the vendors at the big show have the replacement chuck for the pacbay/amtak power wrapper? I've been contemplating one for a while, but would like to check it out before I buy.
Thanks

135. Thread Size Question
Are thread sizes from different manufacturers compatible? Is size "a" thread the same diameter regardless of manufacturer? I know that Maderia poly 40 is slightly different than size "a", but are all the size "a" the same? Thanks I need to order some thread and was curious.

Tom, if you happen to find a second copy, I seem to have misplaced that one. I' remember reading it when I got it, but it's AWOL after many moves.

140. Re: Surf rod
My 10' and 11' surf rods are 28" from the butt to the top of the reel seat, as luck would have it 28" is the legal length to keep stripers in NY. I am building 2 travel surf rods and I kept the butt at 28". I do have rods that are a little shorter in butt length, but I find this to be the most comfortable for me.

I have flown with my rods for the past 7 years. I pack them in a rod tube locked and zip tied. I lay a blanket on the floor and lay each piece in and do a complete revolution so each piece wrapped in fleece. I nest the pieces and reverse them so a tip of one rod is protected by the butt of another. Jam them in the rod tube, if need be all a towel to make sure nothing can rattle around. At th

I'm setting up a new rod that I am building, and as I was laying in bed last night I had this thought pop into my head. Using the NGC spacing shouldn't a reel have the same intersect point regardless of the blank that it is being used on. Let me give an example. Say your planning on using a Penn 704 on a Lamiglass GSB132 1M and you find the intersect point as being 60" from the reel (just

I just picked up a new blank with a spigot ferrule. On normal ferrule I would wrap the female side of the ferrule. I assume that I would do the same with a spigot ferrule? I remember the article in RM about the +/- of wrapping ferrules. Just curious what the consensus is.
