Any blank models to stay away from?

Hey all, I've never bought a rod blank before, and I was just wondering if there were any well-known brands of rod blanks that I should stay away from. I am brand new to this hobby, and haven't even been exposed to all the different brands yet, so I really don't have any idea which way to go yet. Re: Any blank models to stay away from?

I can't think of anything in particular to stay away from, quite the opposite actually. It seems like there is a use for most any blank. Guys have had great success with bargain basement blanks and others with top of the line. If you're looking to build a rod for a specific use post what you're looking for and I'm sure you will get enough recommendations to get started.

I cant think of any that the board sponsors carry that aren't good blanks. You will find that as you build more and more rods, you'll begin to find PERSONAL preferences among manufacturers. I emphasize personal because that's exactly what it is. Most of the blanks available are pretty good stuff. You will also make your own determinations on the price vs performance of blanks. Again, that's a personal decision.
If you are just starting - don't drop a ton into a blank. Buy something inexpensive. Build it. Tear it apart. Rebuild it. Do again. Save money and you learn skills for rod repair and building at the same time. Once you like your results, start buying higher grade blanks and experiementing. You don't want your workmanship to be the experiment at that point because you have no baseline to make judgements on the blank when you are just starting to build. ----------------- AD Re: Any blank models to stay away from?

If you are paying a premium price for a premium blank make sure that the company will be supplying blanks in the future in case you need to take advantage of the warranty. Some are halting the sale of blanks but the inventory at the suppliers will still be available until exhausted. However I have seen in the past where they have no warranty.
