Weird thoughts at night

I'm setting up a new rod that I am building, and as I was laying in bed last night I had this thought pop into my head. Using the NGC spacing shouldn't a reel have the same intersect point regardless of the blank that it is being used on. Let me give an example. Say your planning on using a Penn 704 on a Lamiglass GSB132 1M and you find the intersect point as being 60" from the reel (just making numbers up) shouldn't that same intersect point work on a Rainshadow SUR1385F. The tapers shouldn't be a be so different to have much of an effect, so the deciding factor should be the angle of the reel. Am I thinking right? or should I find other things to run through my mind as I sleep.

Yes, we've covered this in the RodMaker articles. Whether you use the spool upsweep or the 27X factor method, the choker guide location will be in the same location for the same reel, regardless of the length rod you use it on. Longer rods simply require more running guides. Shorter rods require fewer running guides.

You may also consider the possibility of medicated or other induced sleep. Then the brain waves will be in the form of night mares that will wake you up - any way another night without sleep! So many rods, so many articles and so many variables - adult beverage in the evening of the right type will allow a good nights sleep and a fresh mind to build with the following day. It's funny, I thought I understood the concept, then like an epiphany it hits me in my sleep. Guess I'll drink myself to sleep from now on, LOL. Re: Weird thoughts at night

Take in concederation the reel seats should be the same and center bored correctly. Doesn't take much variance at the seat to make a big difference at the intersection of the blank. Mike Thompson Thompson's Custom Rods It is impossible to make anything foolproof, because fools are so ingenious! Re: Weird thoughts at night

tony, i am going to throw in something to chew on:
what about changing the angle the reel sits(changing the upsweep)? this will also change your choke point. other factors are will you only use the one reel with the rod or other reels (they all seem to have different angles of upsweep) the type of line used can have a big factor as well(regular mono vs flourocarbon vs braid) as each acts differently maybe time for another one before bed sweet dreams Re: Weird thoughts at night

Reel upsweep angle really doesn't change anything - that was simply used as a means to locate the choker guide. But the line isn't "shot" off the reel at that angle - as soon as it leaves the spool gravity begins pulling it downward. That's why the 27X method is far better for locating the choker guide.

Hi Tony,
I can appreciate your problem. Many times I wake up around 4 AM and have the answer I was looking for previously. They say that is when the brain is most active. In my case it is still good to have answers, ha,ha! At any time! I will be on Southwest out of Mac Arthur airport 10 AM Friday. Brad is with me. What flight are you taking to the ICBE?
