I never liked to shortern a rod I would look for a different rod to fit your requirements , I think you will be happer a I know some people will tell you they do it all the time but I don't . there again I am a new person at building rods , just remember the rod is yours an you fish it an live with it no matter what you do to it , an you can build the blank any way you want

when it is cold out or in my basment I use HOT tap water to heat up the epoxy the 2 part flex coat one is clear an one is light yellow the clear one will harden up , but but the bottle in hot wap water an it will melt so you can mix an use it , it don't have to be hot just warm [ put it in pants pocket will take a long time ] , some people use micro wave [ never tried it ]

the epoxy I use is in excss of 9 years old an doing fine you should not have that problem with any of the thred type I know of , look at every thing you are doing to see if you can find out why ,, do a test wrap on a scrap rod [ CP don't use it ] as like you a new at it

normaly the smaller guides are for light to very light rodes so for th most part you will only get single foot in the smaller size I could be wrong but i don't think so

on all of the colored / stained cork , the color will fade over time if you want to keep the cplor you have to coat it with some thing , this is because cork will not take a color it just coats the out side , an will rub off of faid from the sun I think

you will here lots of wayes to mix an an use , you will have to try some an find one that works for you , I even but some DNA in my mix when mixing to help with the bubbles , as I mix small amounts in a 1 TB messuring spoon , I hold the spoon in my hand to warm it up then but 1 or 2 drops of DNA on top after the mix an warming an all the bubbles are gone , your brush can add to the brubble p

had the same problem I found that if I applied a lot of epoxy at one time , do the out side than put on a large amount at a high speed [ speed counts] I use about 30 rpm than change to a slow speed about 10 rpm , stop the motor wripe off the excess that drops , down than start the motor an it should take care of your problem in stopping the moter this is a short time , some people use a

make sure you but an under wrap on the rod under the guides so when the rod flexes the guid move on the under wrap an not wear on the rod some people don't do the under wrap but over the long run you will find it works great on the heavyer rods

if all fails get a welder [ electric ] an heat the rod up as you will be removing the center of the grip an you will sand it out to fit the blank , , the welder tkraws pipes that way an it will work the metal rod will get very hot an will not burn the grip

mud hole has some black body [ alum. ] the 2 nuts to hold the reel on an the hoods are silver , I just got a size 17 in , if need be i can dig up the part number let me know if you can't find them PS it was a channel lock I think for the reel to set down in a little bit just let me know if you can't find it will supply, Bill

speed up the drying if you are going to polish it , put it the warmest part of the house to help the drying time some , an I don't mean "" high heat "" 75 deg would greatly help a lot in my part of the world the heat means a lot , [ ALASKA } then polish it out if not cut it off an do again now as the Flex coat will only get harder over time , so make your mine up
