Yes the Forhans locking wrap does work a bit better bill but what it really comes down to is what is the point of even having this wrap in the first place as if you go back to the old days of Shimono BATAM rods and reels if you remember some of there bait casting rods used one footed guides back then and they where wrapped just the same way minus the locking wrap and we never saw those guides com

Yes Bill it is just about the same but done in reverse and it is much faster and you have allot more control while wrapping it as your hand is always in contact with the Micro Guide so there is never any of that swoosh where did that Micro guide go...oops I lost another one?

8 rpm or up as the faster it is the more finish you can put on at one time and the less sags in the finish one will get as I use a motor like Bill does and it save time too.

Do not forget that permagloss cannot be put over epoxy like Flexcoat or TM as it cures with heat and it gets hot so it will blister any epoxy if put over any cured epoxy like FlexCoat or TM

I like to use black Rust-Oleum painy as once you grind down your guide feet they tend to rust but Rust-Oleum stops all that.

Not sure how this can be prevented other then using NCP thread but I have run into the same problem with RED nylon as it turns to a hot pink after getting beat in the sun and I would bet the same goes with Pink nylon too so I think the best thing would be to just use NCP thread.

when it comes to Pro Kote try mixing Pro Kote with the hardener from Thread Master and it will become much more hard if that is what you are looking for but with me I have no problem with Pro Kote and the way it drys soft as it seams other do.

I am thinking like Bill is that you are asking to much from the CP and one example would be if a person wraps over a guide foot with nylon tried like yellow or even red with CP over it you will always be able to see a darker red or yellow where the dark guide foot is no matter how much CP you use it,s just how it is.

I would re-wrap it with a feral as it will make it a stronger rod too.

Fished there lots of time the last time the same thing happened as I was fishing with one know it all kid as most fishermen are and a pro bass fishermen and nobody was getting anything but I was leading the pack with only 3 fish and in the end of the boat. We where fishing in one of those inlets with lots of rocks on the bottom and as soon as I put on one of my other reals set up with 6lb test mo

Finely A fishermen that thinks like me as I remember how all the bass fishermen would think that I was nuts for only using 17lb mono for 14lb and 24lb stripper and just 30lb mono for sturgeon when all the black bass guy’s used 80lb braid and I used mostly 20lb mono for flipping. The first time that I took some of these bass fishermen to the Richmond pier to fish for Sturgeon no one could be le

Hi Ken as I stated before the RainShadow SWS597 is a great blank and as for guides the SIC guides would work just fine for you as they are good for both braided line and standard mono and as for the grips I like cork over EVA or Hypalon except for the exception of the link below "Sure Grip" EVA Fore-grips [] Forecast Dream Reamers set for $49.90 a must have it's my best buy an

I used to live in the Brentwood Oakley Stockton area and fished the suisun bay and below all the way to Tracy and the blank that I like best is the Baton RainShadow SWS597 it's a 8ft blank. I moves to Oregon just 3 years ago and I have used nothing but this same setup and just took a 9 foot sturgeon out of the Columbia and believe me the Columbia river is much rougher then the Delta system is and

It sounds as if maybe you got a old batch of ProKote because Prokote does not get bubbles in it even if mixed extra fast as that is what makes most bubbles in the first place with all finishes out there today and when id comes to the hassle of using foil with ProKote I never use anything but plastic mixing cups and have never had a problem with them so get a new batch of ProKote and give it a try

For any of you that have ever finished up a wrap with a Turks Head knot what type of finish do you use as I am going to use a Turks Head knot in place of just tying down a Diamond wrap with the standard thread on the end,so again what type of finish do you use as I want to also put some toughness in the knot also.

I stopped using FlexCoat about 16 years ago do the fact that other epoxy’s like TM and Prokote are clearer and have less bubbles is that just because I my of had a bad batch of FlexCoat of the 80's or is it still the same way as in it does not hold up in the long run like in the sun as most rods done with FC that I would see would tend to be turning yellow in color and dry hard and brittle afte

I use both but I find using a manual wrapper the best way to rap those Micro Guides as Micro's are just that a pain to wrap no mater how it is done but a power wrapper will make it worse.

I agree with what Tom says as Flex Coat is known for drying tacky and if your second coat still comes out tacky you my want to sand down the tacky finish before doing a third coat.

It sounds like a color preserver not being dry enough as I have done this lots of time in my many years of rod wrapping, one thing that I do that tends to help is after I apply color preserver I let my rod turn for about 2 hours to even over night before I give it another shot of CP with 2 to 3 coats of CP for the most parts.
