Really nothing you can buy in a spray can short of a two part ureathane (which they do make) will give you good results. Spar will yellow, touch up paints will chip, and enamals acrylic or not will fail in short time. The wipe on single part ureathanes work very well but IMO not over any color painted surface. Sometimes they work other times they eat the paint, kind of a shoot from the hip! You c

Don't get so hung up on the choker placement , nothing is in stone and X27 is only a guide to help get a choker placement.

The # you gave are for the factory built rods not the blanks. These blanks are fiberglass and are much lighter in weight then a comparable Lamiglas or Fenwick but the butt sections are also fatter. The SU105 is a nice blank for a 2pc glass and might fit the bill for you. The SU120 is to light for the weight you want to throw IMO.
Where do you fish?? For what do you fish?? Must it be a 2pc?? H

I don't agree with the straight fiber lay. If you look at the way MOST round blanks are made the taper of the cut cloth and the way they are tacked to the mandral the fibers run the length and not around the blank. of course there are exceptions in layups where fibers are layed at an angle!! Some companys use the spiral/ weave method but IMO these blanks have their short comings as well and these

Why would you need to clean them?? I have mine in a plastic sleeve/bag and since one is only hardener the other is resin and they are never mixed in the syringes. Once they get all caked with stuff which takes like a year I throw them out and get new ones.. Not worth cleaning a 2 dollar item!!

186. Re: K series guides
I still have never had a tangle with SV or HV guides so I can't say that shedding tangles is why I would use them. I can say that if you have wind knot problems the shape of the frame and where it connects to the ring creates a corner where a wind knot can get caught and cut off other then that they seem to be nice guides.
Forum: rodboard 13 years ago
John Martines
Well this has been my concern about the K guides from the start is that we don't have the height options we had with the combination of the HV and SV and MN guides. But since the HV and K heights are close Fuji feels that the HV is no longer needed, But mixing K's with SV doesn't look right. It seems that Fuji has forced us into a narrow list of options now.
You must test cast the rod in orde

188. Re: BLDBAG Micros
I use the TLBSG ( SIC titanium version) guides on surf rods for a few years now and they are plenty strong. I have never had one bend, move, crack and I beat my rods up on jettys. The way the frame is stamped gives it good ridged structure. IMO one of Fuji's best designs. now if they would bring these to the USA with an Alconite ring we would be real happy!!

So I guess a break even or so with last year isn't a bad thing. With the economy the way it is I'm glad it didn't turn down for the Expo. The sad part about the Expo is that it had to end, it goes faster every year. Still it's a great time and to see old faces and meet new ones is what it's all about.. Can't wait till next year already!!

Being a blank builder junkie I'll be at the Gary Loomis and Jason Brunner seminars... The rest will be spent guarding the NERBS booth from rod rack knock overs..

195. Re: Custom Paint Job
Lots of custom paint places on line. House of Colors makes some great stuff or go to a local body supply shop and they can make you near any thing you want. All I seem to do is paint blanks anymore, It is easy and there is a learning curve and having a safe place and proper equipment are a must. A hobby airbrush IMO on anything other then a small diameter blank is a waste of time. Most don't move
Forum: rodboard 13 years ago

The compressor will be fine for an airbrush. The only concern is how big in diameter are the blanks you paint?? Even with the biggest needle and having it pulled way open the airbrush is very hard to get good coverage at all even on a thin blank. I have found that i needed to increase the pressure and move very slowly to get good coverage. After doing a few coats your worn out.The problem with in

A fiber called M5 was developed by Magellan and now is being made by Dupont that is strong like Kevlar and light like carbon fiber. I did read that it was to be shown to recreational manufactuers as well as bullet/ armour vest manufactuers but this was a few years ago and don't know what name it goes under now and or if it's something that rods could be made of. They talked of golf shafts so I ju

North Fork Composites, G Loomis, Talon, Lamiglas, Orvis,Seeker, Calstar, CUI, Gator glass, Sage, Rogue, St Croix, the new GUSA, who else am I missing?? Oh Thomas and Thomas... Batson hasn't been made in the US since like `07.

I would have to say that Talon has the old LCI patterns and mandrals or Loomis/Mook designs. Their catalog is only a small portion of what they have. It was explained to me that they have over 600 different blanks. Now if that's blanks or mandrals I don't know as some companys can make more then one rod on the same mandrals. I have bought bass, surf, and salmon blanks from them and I haven't real

Call Talon Graphites. I'd bet they might have a mandral that would work for what you want. There would be a min order my guess would be 20 or 25. great company to deal with and they have some great rod actions.. Very overlooked company!!

I don't think Batson has been around for as long as Amtak since Bob Batson was at Pacbay for a whole lot of years before starting Batson. Maybe since about 2000? I know that the Rainshadow/Cascade plant closed started around 2001 and closed in 2004. I do know that Mudhole was around quite a long time as well up in NJ before moving to Fla. Pacbay has to be one of the oldest names in the component

203. Re: Type of WC?
The reson a Tight metal check can break a blank is due to when the blank flexes it ovals and if it ovals where the tight check is it will be restricted from ovaling and in a way crush where the check is. Doing what other have said and having iot slightly oversized and fitting it to the blank is the best way.

I paint blanks all the time but I use all automotive. In years past I used Duplicolor and cleared with a two part auto paint that comes in a spray can called Spraymax. It's not real cheap like $20 a can but IMO this is the best way to do a blank and is by far the most professional way to do it without fancy equipment. That said, Prep is the most important step! DO NOT FORGET TO WEAR PROTECTIVE BR

Companys will always concentrate their time and $$$ where money is to be made. I think the days of companys making a wide array of blanks is slowing somewhat. This might not be a bad thing as all companys can't be good at all blanks but they can be great at certain blanks and I for one do not stick with one brand name to build rods on.I just hope we don't lose anymore American blank manufactuers.

That blank is nice but I would prefer the BC706s which is S-glass. It simialiar to the BS706s but has a bit more back bone. The @#$%&-706s has a bit more bite then the CBS. the nice thing about the CBS is the thin diameter. The thing is any one of these blanks would work fine but the BC has the faster tip action you might want.
