Ahhhhhhh..... I thought about trying a regular ballon but a punch ballon would be thick but not too thick. I might need to give that a try.

Has anyone tried this?? I have and it was epic fail... I have tried nearly every method and stopped short of buying a Century paint squegee stand. Tube dipping works great but for one blank or changing colors it's not practical. I have in the past used all spray can method using one part touch up paint that is sold at auto stores and a certain brand of 2K auto clear in a can for the top coat .. y

Most of the time it comes right off but if you need to try a heat gun but be CAREFUL on the glass blank. I'd bet once you get the tape started it comes right off. I have seen it where the fiber backing pulls away from the cork and stays on the blank and that's fine if it does. I have cleaned it off with minerial spirits or paint thinner. If your covering it again you want a decent clean surface b

It in theory should be the same but.. and I might be wrong, due to their being less mass of epoxy and being that it cures more from the reaction which creates heat it might be a slower cure just maybe due to the not getting the heat build up?? Just a thought!!

Seekers CBS S-glass/carbon series of blanks are that soft tip and strong power butt like that Fenwick was. They are great crankbait rods as is the all S-glass BS706S/BC706S. Have not found to many all graphite blanks that can match the action and still have the power of these rods.

I'll suggest a Talon Blank# B174 11ft 2 pc the catalog rating is 8-16oz but true rating would be 6-12oz. Really an awsome bait blank that loads well and isn't super heavy.

Talon lists a few 6'6" in 3wt and a few 7' in 4wt in the catalog but if you call them they can make you nearly anything you want in any series you want. The ammount of Mandrals they have is unreal.

Mark, I'm in a similair situation and I'm sticking to my guns with all USA made blank. Does it matter?? Look at the replys! Some feel it's important and some don't! I feel that it is and it must be to you or you wouldn't be asking! Made in the USA might not mean as much now as it once did but only to the ones not buying made in the USA. If were talking about buying Glass or Graphite for blanks

You can space the runners out on a surf blank. Like: tip, 4", 51/2" 61/2" and on and on. You may end up losing 2 guides over all and do a stadic test just to check but I have done it this way for all my NGC surf rods and they are fine.

if you have experianced winding knots on your outfits before, watch out for them with the K guides. Other wise they are pretty nice casting guides!

i would have to agree. Look at it this way! Your buddy is out fishing and shows the rod to someone and they see ugly old wraps next to your new wraps... IMO they would be like "that looks hacked up!!" If it looks nice and all matching they might say" Hey have his ## I want him to build me a rod" Just do the full thing what will it take?? Another 15 minutes??

As Col said above 2K auto finish is as close as "regular" guys can get to the factory finish and nearly just as tough. If you look at auto paint suppliers online you will see any color you can think of is made or can be made. See thru, candys, Metallics, solids, pearls and on and on.. I do my own and Truth be told the painting is the talent part but the prep is the key and most importan

Ha ha... there you go!! One more cunfusing the Sabre issue. I would guess that perhaps Seeker has the rights to use the Sabre name outside of the USA. I'm also sure that it's nothing more then their "Classic" line up since they are mostly if not all old Sabre designed Mandrals! I'd love to see that sticker!!

Unless they are very old stock I think Pacbay owned the rights to use the name and Penn reels owned the rights to the name(might be the other way around). If that's true I would think that the parent company of Penn now owns the name, Unless it was sold at some time. I do beleive that a company in Singapore owns the name or uses the name Sabre and Stroker. They may be making blanks in the name an

I was just across the street visiting another plant in Woodland. It's nice to see manufacturing like this still going on in USA. After you see everything in person you realize just how hands on everything is.

We had a lot of good times and laughs at the Expo this year and it will not be the same at any NERBS function without him. As said above he was out going, smart, could think outside the box and most important a GREAT family man and friend. He surely will be missed without a doubt by all who kne

If he's been using wire guides then regular Hardloy guides would be fine. Now on a 9' spinner depending on the reel spool size I would look for a Fuji 25 HV if not a 30SV for the first guide just go down from there. like this...25HV ,20Hv, 16SV, 12sv,10mn,8,mn,8mn +tip. Build it COF and it should be fine. He's not looking to cast a mile off a party boat. BTW I didn't think party boats allowed ro

I build alot of big surf rods and on the larger guides to sit and grind feet would be a PIA. I grind the ramp on some guides but not the whole foot. I also use a slow cure epoxy as my first/ second coat like Afcote. Then my final coat will be a fast cure epoxy like Threadmaster. Now while I will still get some cracking it takes a long time. I also find that on the larger guides at least, Titanium

That Duplicolor clear won't like to much sanding and buffing so be carefull. I would wet sand it flat and shoot it again.
