Does anyone have the MS Excel index of RodMaker magazine that they can share with me?
A search here on the forum brought up this thread... ...however, none of my email requests were ever responded to. So, I'm asking everyone this time.
I have every issue of RodMaker from Volume 1 #3 to current and it is getting to be quite a pain to look at the covers, much less the index pages, of ever

I was afraid someone was going to mention Foredom. I used one on my internship many years ago and looked them up. They're even more impressive than I remember.
I have to admit, the Dremel I see today isn't the Dremel I remember from the 90's and its hard to overlook that.
I appreciate the positive feedback for Foredom.

After 25+ years my faithful 395 Type 3 Dremel went down. I have a replacement part for it coming. Thank goodness it is something minor. In the meantime, because I had a rod I absolutely had to keep working on, I ran to town and bought a cordless 8100 series Dremel. What a disappointment! Within 15 minutes of operation, the tool started randomly shutting off. I finally started a stopwatch an

Thanks everyone for your input.
Joe V - The bubbles have always appeared after the rod was in the dryer. Upon going into the dryer, I had no bubbles at all. The tunnels filled well and bubbles just weren't there. I assumed it was because of heat so I didn't use heat at all on my latest attempt. The bubbles were fewer and smaller.
John P - I thinned because that is what others wi

Thanks Tom
I'll add my technique...
With a tunnel facing up, I apply finish at the tip of the foot and let the finish wick in from the tip of the foot to the open end of the tunnel. Applying slightly more finish as the air leaves the open end of the tunnel. When the tunnel fills, I flip the rod and do the other tunnel.

I need some advice regarding invisible wraps and how to eliminate bubbles.
I'm doing a North Fork MB 808 blank with K series titanium framed spin guides. Gossamer white silk thread. Standard Threadmaster finish thinned with DNA at a ratio of 1 part mixed finish to 1 part DNA. No heat in my drying box, rotation only.
I did several test wraps with a mid sized guide to get the technique do

I've been using timers since the day I installed my dryer. I control both the lights (heat) and rotation.
I can have my box preheated and ready for finishing by the time I get home from work, or before I get out of bed in the morning. And I can turn off the lights or rotation at what ever time I'd like when I no longer need that function. I'll turn off rotation when the finish gets firm eno

I use a spiral wrap for everything.
I too fish jerkbaits with a spiral wrap. The guides being on the wrong side of the rod for working baits is a non-point as far as I'm concerned. The spiral wrap is for catching the fish, not working your lure. The minuscule forces put on the rod by your bait are nothing compared to the fish.

To me...distance between the grips is irrelevant.
The distance from the butt to the back end of the reel seat is the critical distance for balance and feel in the hand. All the rest just falls where it falls. (unless some unique circumstance dictates otherwise)

11. Re: lathe chuck
Penn State Industries has a 3-jaw that will chuck up 1/4" mandrels. The nice thing about a jawed chuck is the ability for the mandrel to go thru the chuck and then you don't have the entire length of your mandrel out between your chuck and tail.
I have 3 and 4-jaw chucks along with 3/8" and 1/2" Jacobs chucks. Each have their place. The 3-jaw is on the lathe 90% or more of th

From another guy in Minnesota...Thorne Brothers.
If you fish for anything beyond panfish thru the ice, you need to get a real ice blank.

I use halogen undercabinet lights. 2 bar shaped lights with 2 bulbs in each. Each with a high and a low switch. Gives you lots of temperature control and they are very slim and unobtrusive. No wiring required. Just plug them into a wall socket.

Add my vote for Thorne Brothers.
Those guys understand the requirements for ice fishing for fish other than panfish and have their blanks made appropriately.
Thanks for the lead on the glass blank Roger. I'll have to check it out.

The ID of the SK2 at the rear is significantly under that of the ACS or ECS.
So, the tenon would go in the ACS, but it wouldn't "fit" the ACS.

North Fork's SSP 767-1. You can extend it if you really need to be at 8' or over.

Most of the popping blanks I measure up tend to exhibit characteristics like a crankbait blank.
Hot Shot blanks look more like XF jig or feel presentation blanks...just much longer.

I use a stainless smooth mandrel. Glue my rings with Rod Bond and clamp right on the mandrel. Mandrel chucks right up into my Rockwell lathe. In well over 300 rods, I've never waxed a mandrel and I've never had a grip stick to it.
Only way to fly in my opinion.

Thorne Brothers has the best ice blank offering available. Especially for fish like Lakers and Pike.

Generally speaking...Popping blanks will work well for Crappie rods.
Shikari PP7000 and Loomis GLX P8400 for my two rods.

Gudebrod Blue Dunn NCP is what I was told.
Had a customer that needed some repair and he had asked Loomis before bringing the rod to me.

The HM's I've done have all been well received.
In the measuring that I've done, I get data that equals or exceeds that of other high end blanks like the GLX or Legend Elite.

If the St. Croix's are gone...
Thorne Brothers has the best ice blanks you can get today. St. Croix makes their blanks for them. They usually have a few lengths and powers to choose from.

29. Pearl Thread ???
I have a customer that would like his wraps done in Pearl thread.
Are there any threads out there that give a pearlescent look?
I'm striking out in my looking around.
Additionally...maybe some sort of additive to the thread finish to give the quality, over a white/off-white thread.
