Im looking for a set of light titanium frame inserted guides and was going to go with the fugi's, but noticed that the titans are about 1/3 cheaper. Have any of you guys used the titans and if so what are your thoughts on them.
Thanks Danny "There is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all arguments and which cannot fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance--that principle is contempt prior to investigation." - Herbert Spencer Re: Amtak Titians?

I'm using Titans on a steelhead/salmon casting rod I'm building. They look like they are a pretty decent guide and I've no regrets on my choice.

I've built maybe 10 -12 fly rods using the Titan guides over the last couple of years. I wanted to see if the inserts would hold up to abuse from braided backing and so far I haven't seen any grooving, nor have I seen any corrosion on the frames, haven't had one of the inserts pop out yet either. The only fault I can see is Amtac dosen't make a tip top made of titanium to match the guide and I have to buy a Fuji titanium framed tip to match. If you're looking to save a few bucks they'll give you respectible service but keep in mind they aint Fujis and you get what you pay for. Re: Amtak Titians?

Size for size, fujis are lighter. This matters most if you are building for UL or L applications and are minimizing weight. Otherwise, probably not noticeable although Fujis Titaniums can be 30% lighter.
But for the $, can't be beat for corrosion resistance if you fish salt water. Or just want to know you have titanium. Mo Re: Amtak Titians?

I've got a set on an old Fenwick HMG 4wt. They seem to be holding up fine although I don't suppose these little Sierra trout put too much of a strain on them. I will say that I enjoy the quietness they offer over the snakes I had on the rod previously. Their weight doesn't comprimise the performance of this blank either.

Spinning guide height for each size is about half way between the height difference of the Fuji titanium V and new concept guides. Re: Amtak Titians?

Danny,
I've built several rods with Titans, and they are all I will use on my saltwater and freshwater UL rods from now on. They don't have a nice, smooth finish on the frame like Fuji's do, but they keep cost down that way. The Zirconium Oxide rings on the Titans are as close to SIC as it gets - I use nothing but Powerpro (braided line), and over the years I have found NO wear on them - and I fish them in nothing but saltwater.(And I'm very hard on my gear at times) The only drawback to them, IMHO, is that their frames are a little more flexible that Fuji titanium guides... but that has not been a problem for me, and like I said - I'm hard on gear at times. I can't say enough good things about them, or the service I get with AmTak . They have bent over backwards to make me happy. I use nothing but Titans, unless a customer asks for something else. BTW... No, I don't work for AmTak or get kickbacks from them... I just really like their Titan guides. LOL... Kevin Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
