I know that St. Croix was wanting to remain in the business with a rod series at that price point, something which they felt they could not do if they continued to produce that line of rods in the U.S.

It's different for everybody depending upon what price point clientele you normally work with. I just never figured the guys buying $60 rods (nor $100 rods) were the guys I needed to go after.

It is a shame to see such a good company looking towards the masses for boosted sales. They have always prided themselves on being a small time company from rural northern Wisconsin (not too far from where I grew up in the great northwoods) I can only hope that they don't trash the other lineups that they currently have. You can bet if they do I will quickly find another "favorite" company!!

Hated to see it happen but I guess that is how it goes in big business. Lets hope that the Wisconsin made blanks continue to uphold the reputation that they have established!

Bill, my question was not related to what happened to your post but as to what is going on @ St. Croix. I really like thier blanks and am curious as to is going on with them.

A few years ago I had the opportunity to talk with the folks at St. Croix, and they were at that time considering offshore supply of their low end blanks in an effort to rremain competitive in that category. They had no plans at that time to outsource all their production, just the bottom of the line. I believe they will remain committed to producing their high-end rods & blanks right there in Park Falls. A lot of people in that community are dependent upon St. Croix for their livelihood, and for them to continue to provide those families an income, they must remain competitive. Stay competitive, stay open. Stay open, provide jobs. You do what you have to do to go on.

Dan,

They have ONE low price line of rods that they are now importing to compete with the discount houses. The stuff that you are familiar with, is still coming out of their factory in Wisconsin

Thanks Mike, I've been using St. Croix since my Dad took me to their factory in the early 80's and break out into cold sweats every time the thought of them shutting down enters my head.
