Billy , The Dream Reamers, if you buy the set comes with extra rolls of grit to replace the grit that wears away or comes undone. Replace it using contact cement. Put a heavy coat on the reamer after using a piece of sandpaper to clean off the old residue then put a coat of cement on the extra roll of grit, wait about ten or twelve minutes then spiral it up or down the reamer, whichever way yo

If I can't get an exact fit, I drll them oversized then use a couple of foam arbors glued into the reel seat. Then it's real easy to ream out the arbor to fit the blank.

Ellis, I've been using IP844 blanks for crankbait rods for years now. Probably the best crankbait blank I've built on and I tried many different ones. But I have never made a two piece one. They make great rods for shallow to mid range crankbaits and Rat-L-Traps up to 1/2 oz..

I don't underwrap anything but the heaviest saltwater trolling rods and only unerwrap those because the customers are trying to match the colors of their boat and reels and they seem to expect them to be underwrapped. I think it's done more for looks than function.

Let the finish cure then take an exacto knife with a new blade then carefully slice the "fuzzies" off and then put on another coat of finish.

You aren't likely to be able to buy that reel seat anywhere. It's probably made only for Cabela's to their specs. It probably comes in a set of three pieces, foregrip, reel seat and rear handle. It looks like the rear grip slips into the back of the seat so I'm sure you could use a foam grip instead of thecork. On the foregrip the cork maybe already glued on or you may have to glue it on yoursel

Congratulations Jesse. I remember buying several dozen of your rods for my store right about 14 years ago when I was just starting out in rodbuilding. We spoke on the phone a good many times and I tried picking your brain about your rods without making it look too obvious. I never thought I'd ever meet you in person but it was a pleasure meeting you in Charlotte a couple of years ago. Here's to a

If you used chrome roller guides I think what you are experiencing is the plating on the guides cracking under the stress of being bent. No cause for alarm and it will go away after a couple of trips and fighting a few fish. I've had it only happen to me every time I use chrome or the gold plated rollers but never the black ones..

Deft brand spray laquer. Very quick drying and easy to use. Spray 5 or 6 thin coats about 15 minutes apart then let cure in a warm area for 3 or 4 days then buff and polish. I use automotive swirl removerer to give it a high gloss finish then a coat or two of wax.

I always put a second coat of TM withi 4-6 hours but wait around 12-14 hrs before putting on my waterslide decal. After applying my decal I VERY SELDOM wait more than 15 minutes to apply TM over the decal. I have been doing it that way ever since I started using decals from Decal Connection and have never run into a problem with any of the rod finishing epoxies on the market. I think waiting 24

Just about every major reel manufacturer makes left hand crank reels. To name a few are Shimano, Daiwa, Quantum, Garcia, etc. Now that doesn't mean every retailer will carry every model of left hand reel available. I had a retail store for 12 years and carried every reel that was available in left handed models but would only stock one left handed model to every three right handed reels in that pa

I have never thinned epoxy and don't see a need to. If you want a thinner finish learn to work a little faster when the epoxy is at it's thinnest. I use a 200 RPM motor and put a coat on each guide. After I get to the tip I go down the rod again and brush off the excess. On a 7' rod it's done in 5 minutes or less. If you want a thinner epoxy without using anything to dilute it, Threadmaster L

If he's the same person Billy's talking about his name is Steve Gardner. Steve showed me a remarkably light rod using the same small lightweight guides I threw away some time back. They were so small I couldn't even figure out how to hold them to position them on the blank to be able to wrap them. It seemed that every time I turned around those guides were in my way, so out they went. By the w

If they determined it to break due to a defect in the blank, and this is from my own experience returning a couple of Loomis rods for warranty claims, they sent me replacement blanks along with my broken rod returned but cut in half between the foregrip and first guide.

I have a friend who's a prefessional bass fisherman, Shaw Grigsby from Florida. Back when I owned a tackle store I hired him to do a seminar on bass fishing. We became pretty good friends afterwards and started fishing together whenever he would come down to visit relatives in Baton Rouge. On one of those visits he asked me if I'd like to be a guest on his fishing show One More Cast with Shaw

I just wanted to thank everyone that purchased tickets for the Kustom Rod for Kids built by Doc Ski, Putter ,Stan Grace and Rich Gassman. We sold a total of 50 tickets including the 20 that Bill Stevens so generously matched for the first 20 tickets sold. We were happy to be involved in such a generous project. We also wanted to thank everyone who stopped by to purchase some of our products an
