All the factory rods i've seen or used always had a sz 12 guide, including A;;star, Castaway, Falcon, Berkley and others. Every flipping rod i've ever made I used a sz 12.

If you're going to throw 1 to 3 oz lures you'd be better off with the SWB70M. the med-hvy is too much rod for 1 to 3 oz lures. Coon Pops run in the range of 3 to 6 ounces with the 4 oz size the most popular around here. Use a size 22 graphite spinning reel seat and a graphite gimbal or just use a larger rubber butt cap to keep the weight down on the rod.

What in the world is a Cajun doing fishing out of a kayak especially throwing Coon Pops for tarpon. Man what did you do with your pirogue ? Seriously though I've made a lot of tarpon rods for throwing coon pops using Batson's SWB70MH and SWB70H E Glass blanks. I have also made several in the 8' models also. Spiral wrapping is the way to go with thes rods. I use graphite gimbals and reel seats to

Micro Set works great when applying any kind of decal whether it's a waterslide or a peel and stick. After applying a coat of finish and letting it dry overnight apply some Micro Set to the spot where you're decal will go then peel the backing off of your decal and place it down on the blank. The Micro Set will allow you to move your decal around until you have it placed where you want it. I use

You won't need it. Just put it in your tailstock snug with a twisting motion and while drilling just hold the chuck with your other hand. Drill in small increments and you won't have any trouble with the chuck coming loose'.

Celluloid and acrylic needs no type of finish. Just wet sand to 400 grit and if you have some micro mesh start off at 2400 grit and work up the seven grits up to 12000. If you don't have MM wet sand to 400 or 600 grit and polish on a buffing wheel with Tripoli, then white diamond. One more way is to wet sand to 400 or 600 grit then polish with an automotive scratch remover polish. You can put a c

"Air foam" is just a play on words to match up with their "lighter than air rods". It's just a way of marketing their higher end rods to let the public know that their rods are "supposed" to be the lightest available.

It fits just right on a sz 16 seat but if you have a large hand a sz 17 may be better to your liking. An 18 or 20 is overkill.

Why not pick up the phone and call Merrick and ask them who is ther closest dealer to you ? It won't take but a minute.

A neighbor of mine called me a while ago and asked me if I could make a rod for a friend of his to fish for sharks. He doesn't know anything about shark fishing and I know even less than him. Can anyone give me a hint on what I should be looking to build ? Do you troll for them or do you chum for them or do cast at them ? What length rod should I use and do I use rollers or standard guides ?

If all I had to complain about was a sticker coming off of a spool of thread I'd be in in great shape.

Black-blue, black-red, black-green, black-copper, black-pink, black-teal, black-purple, black-black. 15 people could give you an answer and you will get 15 different color combinations. Just take a white blank or a dowel painted white and do some test wraps to see what looks the best to you. My suggestion might be the best color choice for me or the next guy but to you it may be the worst.

Mike, I've tried the newer one and didn't like it and went back to using the original. It takes a longer time in the water and I've found it to be a little thicker than the original. I don't have a printer but bought a few sheets with my logo printed on them.

Try www.woodchipshome.com. They have acrylic or acrylic like material that's 1" diameter and already rounded. Click on pen supplies and then on pen blanks. They have an alternative ivory and alternative jade that looks great.

The exposed grip part should fit tight to the blank but it's always good to put about an inch of Flex Coat arbor where the threads are, that is if you are usig Fuji seats. If ou are using Forecast exposed seats you don't need anything as long as it is tight to the blank where you want it.

Flex Coat brand hot glue for tips is the best and strongest glue I have ever used. I have no use for 5 min. epoxy on tips. The Flex Coat is more than strong enough.

I do around 3 custom rods per month but build on an average about 25 rods per month for sale to walk in customers and at sports and outdoor shows. I keep at least 100 rods in stock, mostly speck and redfish rods and also some stand-up tuna rods.

I have for years been using a dremel tool with a reinforced cutting disk . One disk will grind over a hundred guides before needing to be replaced. Oh, Tony that was some great tasting stuff you sent me. Thanks very much. Lance

I had a customer bring back a rod to me today that has never been fished with since he picked it up from me two weeks ago. He came in with about 8'' of rod in one hand and the handle section in the other hand saying he had a warranty claim. The rod was in his boat and he said whe he left to go fishing in the morning the rod was laying on the floor with the tip broken. He said the rod shouldn't

Tony, do as Raymond said. A little 5 min. epoxy on a thread shim is all you need. You're not trying to land a rocket on the moon. And to answer your question, no you don't let the epoxy dry. Put a little glue on the thread and a little in the tip and twist it on, make sure it's straight and let it sit for a few minutes till it's dry.

Bill gave those guides to me more than a couple of years ago and everytime i turned around there they were. I would move them somewhere else and then before i knew it they would be right in front of me again. I must have moved and stored them in about eight different places. Then it dawned on me and I asked myself what in the world am I going to do with these aggravating , always in my way guides

If I need something quick and specify 2nd day air I never order on a Thursday or Fri. If you order on Fri your order won't show up until Tuesday and that's if it was shipped on Fri. If shipped on Thurs. you can expect it on Monday. Usually on 2nd day air orders there is no Saturday delivery unless you pay a surcharge. In my experience , if you need something for the weekend and specify 2nd day ai

Emory, there's more guide choices out there than you can shake a rod at. I'm in the process of ridding my inventory of everything but about three or four styles. I have almost every style and shape out there in just about every plating avaiable. If Bill wouldn't come around every once in a while to make me look through all of my storage bins I wouldn't know what I have hidden.
