Don't buff it with any kind of compound unless you want to take off all of the finish and paint and get back to bare metal.

Just like you said. Something contaminated your spool of thread. Where was it stored at ? Did you spray anything near your work area or thread storage area or handled anything such as oil, furniture polish, wax or anything else that may contain silicone or oils ? Maybe something got on your thread some time ago and you didn't realize it.
When I get any kind of thread in be it nylon or metallic

You want the best fix of all ? Use Flex Coat dryers. In 18 years of building rods I have never had a rod come loose from their rubber chucks. Once you set your rod in the chuck you have to pull your rod out, it can't just slip out.

It was most probably Earhardt. They were from Arkansas and introduced them at a Bass Masers Classic in Alabama sometime in the early nineties. They sold out to a company I think from somewhere in Illinois around 2002 or 2003 then I haven't heard anything from them since.

Look at your post several threads below. Contact the vendor Tom mentioned or Lamar Mfg and either one could answer your question.

Big mistake if you use a pistol grip on a 7' rod. It won't balance out right and you'll be fighting the rod more than the redfish. The longest rod I'll build is a 6 footer with a pistol grip and then I think that's a little too long. A 7" or 9" standard lenght cork grip would be great for that type of rod with a 2 1/2" foregrip. My preference would be a split grip, but a 9" g

They look just like the urethane grips showcased in Rodmaker Magazie. It seems to be pretty dense and looks like a black colorant had been added.

Brent this is what I should have bought instead of my heavy 4x8 table. They offer in different lengths and widths.

Now that you mention it, I remember owning three of those rods back then in the late 80's and early 90's. They had black EVA handles and sold for somewhere around 80.00. They were one of the most popular bass rods around at that time. Also after the spiderwire craze hit , Spiderwire came out with a split grip casting and spinning rod marketed for the use of their line.

Go to Michaels or Hobby Lobby and pick up a bottle of embossing powder in black or any other color they have that you might want to use. Take some thin CA glue and drip a couple of drops in the spot that you want to fill then pour some powder in and then another drop of CA. Let it harden then repeat the process until the void is filled then use your tool to shape the handle then sand and finish

Different type of acrylics or resins act differently with different type of tools. I have found that some polyester resins, especially some of the resin like you get from Masecraft will chip out very easily and get a "shattered glass" look if I use a scraper or a gouge but when I switch to a rounded edge skew I get a very smooth cut. Regular acrylic acetate like what Craft Supplies s

Ed I find that I get my best results on acrylics and even wood for that matter turning at about 3000 RPM's. Your tools need to be very sharp and take your time and make light cuts. At that spped I usually get nice fine ribbons coming off of the acrylics.

There were a couple of companies making and selling spiral wrapped rods in the early to late 90's. One was called Loew's and the other was called Earhardt Rods. I sold quite a bit of the Earhardt rods after I initially saw and bought several at a Bass Masters Classic in Alabama several years ago. They were built more the traditional way with three transition guides with the first being directly o

The way you described is how I've done it in the past. Make sure your first coat of epoxy has completely dried before you slide your foregrip on or else you'll get some cork dust or particles imbedded in your finish.

Dyed box elder burl and dyed maple burl are my favorite stabilized woods to use. I've made several complete split grip handles and by far the dyed woods are my favorites. When making a grip and not a reel seat, a piece 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 x 6 is my preferred size. Most standard sized casting reel seats are just over 1" in diameter and with an inch and a half piece gives you a little more room to t

Fish Eyes galore !!! Contamination from your syringes or from another source such as silicone or oil. I have never used syringes, but have used metal measuring spoons or the plastic graduated mixing cups and have never had that problem. I don't think you are supposed to clean the syringes.
