If you want to get into more intricate thread art, Dale Clemon's book Custom Rod Thread Art is the one you need to get. You may have to read it then re-read it again and study and understand each chapter to fully understand it. Probably 95 percent of the patterns and designs you see on the photo page is a pattern or a variation of a pattern from the book.

Gudebrod NCP purple thread is a better color match than regular purple. I use Green and gold J Metallic brand thread also.

Handsome? Andy, you've got to be kidding! Seriously, theres a great soul food/ cajun restaurant about 4 or 5 blocks from the convention center that has some of the best southern style and home cooking that you could ever want. Bill Stevens and I ate there for the two nights that we were there and wished we were staying for a couple of more. Maybe some of us Cajuns and Texicans could get together

I normally use a size 17 reel seat and find it real comfortable to use. A size 16 is also ok but if you have a larger size hand you may find a 16 a little uncomfortable. I have hardly ever used a size 18 because the bushings needed to be larger and more weight was added. I build mostly popping rods in the 6'6'' - 7' range and a size 17 is a good compromise between the two. Use a split grip set

reelcolors.com specializes in anodizing those type of reels. You can send them your old reels and after the anodizing process they will look like new again. There are many different colors to choose from. They can also engrave logos on the side plates. Phone no. is: 860-526-0820

I bought a couple of dozen of them from Schneiders Rod Shop at Charlotte back in February. Call them to see if they still stock them.

I THINK he may be speaking about an old sponsor of this board that went out of business, Heads or Tails and the people who bought out their inventory. Correct me if i'm wrong.

You don't epoxy the pieces together. That is a flippin' stick blank. The blank is made to telescope down to be able to fit in bass boat rod lockers. I position the stripper guide so that when the rod is fully collapsed that the stripper guide sits about two inches above the butt section. Lance

I use Flex Coat high build all the time and even in South Louisiana the finish has never cured hard enough in one hour to be able to put on a second coat. Normally I can put a second coat in four to six hours. Usually within 48 hours a second coat will "weld" itself to the first coat. After 48 hours I usually lightly scuff the wrap with a scotchbrite pad for a better bond. Lance

I think 1/4" masking tape is by far the easiest and fastest method of attaching guides to a rod. The only time i can remember ever having some residue left on the rod after removing the tape is when i didn't complete the wrapping after several days. I take a piece of about one inch and lay it right on top of the guide foot then lay the guide on the rod and press the tape down on both sides.

I always put my decals over a coat of flex coat that has cured at least 18 or more hours. I've waited as little as 15 minutes to put my flex coat after i have put the decal in place and never had any cloudiness. The only time it has happened is when i tried to put the decal on a matte blank. Lance

Well I showed up at Bill Stevens house at 10:00 AM this morning all ready to flock some grips. The temperature was already 95 degrees and Bill was sweating his tail off getting everything ready to start flocking our grips. Wouldn't you know that it was so hot that the glue was just like liquid and it wouldn't stay put on the cork grips. Before we knew it Bill had this purple glue all over him, ov

I've wrapped countless stand up rods on mine. Underwraps are done in seconds. I don't use it on inshore rods but on stand up and trolling rods it can't be beat. American Tackle and Batson Ent. also sells power wrappers comparable to Pac Bay's. Lance

Get yourself a Rainshadow IP843 or an American Tackle AMP842. Both are really great rods whether you choose to build a spinning or casting rod. I would use either titanium coated guides or the Titan guides . They are better suited for saltwater fishing. Lance

Those aren't arbors, they are used as a foregrip and a butt cap. You still need to fill in the space whether you use foam brick arbors, masking tape or dry wall tape just as you would use them on an ordinary reel seat. Dry wall tape works great as i have used it to build six rods using the Matrix handles. Lance

Flex Coat also sells glitter in a kit with their rod finish. It's great for using on wraps and also on lures. Use "ultrafine" glitter found in craft stores. They usually come in 1 oz bottles and some of the better colors are gold, opal and blue violet which looks great on black wraps and as Tom suggested a little goes a long way. Lance

I guarantee that those IP844 Rainshadows could haul in the biggest redfish that cruise the La. marshes. I think between Bill and I there are about 300 of them in use now and with Larry building on them those reds won't have a chance. Lance

I think Bill has hired a smuggler to carry all of those dangerous and expensive tools to Charlotte. It sure would be a shameful sight to see Bill trying to carry those tools on the plane and then carted off in shackles and a strait jacket with him hollerin' at the men in white coats not to lose his purple and gold tools and his milk crate slash rod wrapper . See you before Charlotte' Lance

Worked real late last night trying to finish a matching set of stand up rods for Christmas. I needed to put on a final coat of Flex Coat on the wraps then i would be done. Mixed up a large batch and proceeded to coat one rod and then i had one guide left on the second one when i got up to get a drink and i noticed that i used Glass Coat hardener with my Flex coat resin. Oh well, figured i would f

Cindy, if you use any of the Madeira metallics you MUST use color preserver. If not thesilicone on the thread will make your finish separate from your wrap. I just sold 22 spools of it on @#$%& because i almost never use color preserver and it was too frustrating to wrap with. J Metallic is about the best metallic that i've used for underwraps and trim bands. Lance
