It's just a promotional statement meaning that with the materials used in making his rods that they are "lighter than air". There is no helium in the rods. Look at his website for more information on his rods.

If you steady your hand and only go 1/16 or 1/8 of an inch beyond your thread wrap and you'll have the straightest line you need. In my opinion whose going to look at every thread wrap to see if your epoxy came off the thread in a straight line ? Using tape or anything else for that matter only adds more time and creates more aggravation than you need. Just lay your brush on top of the rod with a

Bill and myself would like to thank everyone who came by the Swampland booth to look over our products, spend their money and just talk rodbuilding. It was a pleasure meeting everyone who came to take a look at "Clyde and to get a sample of our Clyde hyde jerky. It looks like Bill , with his seminars on flocking got a whole lot of people interested in flocking and i think it will be a major

I used heavy duty adjustable shelf brackets. The brackets are sized for a 15" shelf. I set it up so that i can lower or raise the shelf, but i sit when i wrap and never had any need to adjust them .my shop is 24' long and my wrapping shelf is 16' long. I have a Pac bay wrapper on one end and a flex coat wrapper on the other.

I received my latest Rodmaker mag. this afternoon and I've got to say that this issue is one of the most enjoyable one I've read in a while. Andy's inerview with Gene Bullard was great, and the cover photo and pictures were top notch. Oh ,and the letters to the editor........ I had a good laugh and found it hard to believe that some people can be so..............well enough said. Thanks for the

On a "pole" i would wrap in any old color laying around but on a "rod or blank" i would wrap in green and gold trim.

I keep my shop temperature between 72 and 76 degrees and i find that when using Flex Coat or American Tackles finish I can put my second coat in about five hours and four at the least.

I bought the kit at Auto Zone but i have also seen it at Wal-Mart. The rod has only been used on three trips but shows no signs of the paint cracking, peeling or chipping. I don't think that there'll be anything to worry about.

I posted a couple of pictures of a blank that i painted using Dupli-Color auto paints. The pictures came out a little fuzzy but i think you could see the purple and green tints. There'a also a touch of gold in it. It really looks good in the light and the colors realy come alive when the rod is looked at at different angles, especially in the sun. It comes in a kit with a primer, color and cle

I build a lot of stand up and trolling rods and never finish each individual wrap with epoxy or color preserver. I underwrap with size A J Metallic brand thread then start my guide wrap about an eighth of an inch inside of the underwrap then wrap towards the guide foot but don't put in my tie in loop. Once I get to the foot I start wrapping over the thread back towards the beginning of my wrap th

I would think that if it's listed as a fast act. it would be a fast, mod fast would be listed as such and so on. One company's fast action may be a little different than another company. The best way to familiarize yourself with different actions is to stick with one or two blank companies. Most people who come to me for a rod aren't concerned if the blank used is a St. Croix, Loomis, Rainshad

Cut a slit down one side then peel the old butt cap off. Buy a model no. BC19 butt cap from any of the sponsors and slip it on with a little five minute epoxy then you're all done. Lance

It would be best if you put a coat of epoxy finish and let cure for a couple of days before you wrap your overwrap. You'll be able to pack your threads a lot tighter. Lance

Years ago I picked up a CO2 tank and a regulator at a welding supply shop for about a hundred dollars. It weighs about thirty pounds when filled. At the time i was making and painting spinnerbaits and hand carved topwater lures. On one fill up i used to paint about 4000 baits, two or three coats each. It cost about 20.00 to fill up and i didn't have to worry about any noise because there was non

I have power wrappers and hand wrappers and when doing those type of rods (popping) i always use my Flex Coat speed wrapper. I find that i can go as fast and sometimes faster using a manual wrapper. I don't have to worry about overruns then having to back off and start over. Power wrappers are great for wrapping larger saltwater and freshwater rods and underwraps and i use them for that purpose
