Unusual Baitcasting Trigger Reel Seat?????????
Posted by: Tony Ruffino (199.62.8.---)

I was searching on the net for a reel seat to suit my situation and found a reel seat that was very interesting and thought of buying it until I found out that the seat only comes in a handle kit and to top it off the foregrip is mounted onto the reel seat.

That's a problem because I don't like to use cork on my handles and this handle kit comes with cork.

Do any of you have any suggestion on where I can find this reel seat to buy by itself and help links to the site?

If I have no choice except to buy the unit and try and remove the cork.

Is this possible and how do I remove the cork without damaging the reel seat so I can use it for a build?

Thanks,

Tony

You aren't likely to be able to buy that reel seat anywhere. It's probably made only for Cabela's to their specs. It probably comes in a set of three pieces, foregrip, reel seat and rear handle. It looks like the rear grip slips into the back of the seat so I'm sure you could use a foam grip instead of thecork. On the foregrip the cork maybe already glued on or you may have to glue it on yourself. If it's already glued you'd have to cut off the cork and turn a piece Of EVA to fit the foregrip.

If the cork isn't already attached you can certainly shorten the tread on the seat, the nut under the cork and than reduce the cork to match more what you want, I've a few examples at the house, I'll try to get them posted. Again there is a lot of material there that will have to be left alone if your into the cosmetics of the unit in general.

I tried to source the componentry for these and failed. Unfortunately, you have to buy the complete unit (or two) from Cabelas and manipulate it yourself. Surely some manufacturer out there must see the need for more custom seat components. There appears to be a market for them.

According to Cabelas the foregrip is attached to the reel seat.

What can I do to remove it safely without harming the reel seat?

Thanks,

Tony

I have seen that reelseat some where before. Maybe 8 or 9 years ago. The one I saw did not have the foam or cork, it was just a skeleton. You had your choice of using either using cork or foam. I think I saw it at AnglersWork Shop. This is not a new idea. I believe the problem with this system was, if you held the foegrip with your right hand you had a tendency to unscrew it.

The Fuji IPS seats are very similar except for the open spaces for the blank. But, If you'd play with one, I bet you could come up with the same configuration. Plus, you can get the IPS components seperately instead of buying a whole kit. Many of the sponsors carry them. Matagi sells them painted in some pretty snazzy colors.

. I would also chwck with Batson (RainShadow/Forcast), Pacic Bay. Merrick Tackle. These are suppliers so if you do not have a business lic and buy in larger quanities they want sell to you. They can tell you if they have it and what suppplier would carry it.
