I want to add a decal to the top of a fly seat barrel but I don't want the finish to encircle the entire barrel because it would impede the fly reel foot from sitting flush against underside of the the fly seat. Any suggestions?

On a saltwater boat rod, I want to transition the wrap, tapering from the blank onto the end of the EVA foregrip. What is the technique for this. Thanks.

5. Inkjet Decal
If i use an inkjet printer to print a graphic on adhesive backed decal paper, will the two part finish coats prevent sun fading?

Wow! Amine blush?! My shop is in my basement, cool and maybe a little damp. And I'm sure that my 340 lb. carcass puts out pleanty of CO2!

I've mixed a couple of batches of ProKote finish recently that have cured just fine but after a couple of days develop a very slight cloudy film on the surface. The finish is not at all tacky or soft. It disappears completely with a subsequent coat. Any thoughts on what might be causing this?

Lorenzo, I downloaded a couple of JPEG versions of the Christian fish symbol and I converted them to the EPS (Encapsulated Post Script) format that Decal Connections needs to make a decal. Email me and I will send you the files. Just about any graphic image can be copied from the internet, converted to an EPS file using GIMP freeware, and sent to Decal Connection for production. Easy peasy.

Craig, I live in Dublin, OH, and enjoy the same kind of fishing that you do. My favorite all around Ohio blank is Mudhole's SJ782-MHX. I fish bass, bluegill, crappie, saugeye, walleye and perch, and if I could only use one rod, this is it. I have also become a recent convert to the Microwave guide system and I have built several Microwave rods for myself and customers. The blank is 1.7 oz. an

The technique is a 1oz. spreader rig with two gold hooks baited with live shiners. This is fished vertically at the bottom.

Any ideas on the ideal rod specs for Lake Erie perch fishing?

Best to not apply them directly to the blank. I always put one coat of finish on first and then apply the decal. After that apply a second finish coat.

I'm building a 10' 8wt fly rod for Lake Erie tributary steelhead fishing. Iceing is a consideration and I intend to use Recoil single foot running guides for the flexibility that they contribute to de-iceing. I have heard that a larger size guide would also aid in the iceing problem. What size recoil would you all recommend?

Try Mudhole's CVJ series. I've built two on the 6' 30-50# spinner blank, and I love them for grouper jigging. It weighs 4.9 oz., and it can handle some pretty big stuff (up to an 8' lemon shark!). $46 for the blank or $68 for the kit. This may sound cheap, but they are pretty awesome rods.

I know that Tom K. is a minimalist when it comes to guide sizing for fly rods. In that vein, what do you all think about a Recoil #12 stripper, then 9 recoil single foot #1 running guides for a 9", 6wt.?

What is the relative weight difference between nickel silver and aluminum fly seats with wood inserts?

The problem with the 27 formula is that with larger spinning reels the choke point is near or beyond the end of the rod for example a Penn Sargus 6000 reel has a diameter of 63.5 mm which puts the choke at 67.5" from the reel face, which is beyond the end of 7' with a 10" rear grip.

20. NGC help needed
I've been asked to build two spinning rods on MHX MB844 blanks. The specs are as follows:
• 7’0â€
• 12-20# line weight
• 5/16-1 oz. lure weight
• Fast action
• Heavy power
I expect that they will be used with about a 6000 size spinning reel. I intend to employ the NGC setup but I don't have a reel available to ascertain the choke point and angle. If someone could mount a

I chuck it in a hand drill and go. I do have several reamer sizes and work up the ladder. Maybe I'm just a little too aggressive.

I'm sure this has been hashed and rehashed but, what guide sizes do you recommend for a 9' 5wt fly rod. I intend to use Recoil stripper(s) and Recoil single foot runners. Thanks.

29. Pink HMX, Please
I'm sure that many of you get requests for high quality rods with pink blanks. I, for one, have built fly rods for the Casting for Recovery organization, and I have used Elkhorn's pink fly blanks. It would be neat if Mudhole would offer a limited number of their very fine HMX blanks in pink.
What do you think?

Any thoughts as to achieving bright, eye-popping pink wraps over a dark gray blank without the dark bleeding through and distorting the pink thread color? I use CP.
