I am planning to use Fuji SK2 components with the Fuji winding checks. I assume that I want to purchase the winding check that is closest, but smaller, than the diameter of the blank at the point of installation. I assume, further, that I would ream the winding check to fit. Am I on the right track?

Does anybody sell ready made carbon fiber/foam core grips? Also what is the weight of this style grip relative to cork?

Please consider a pink 5wt, 4 pc fly blank for Casting for Recovery. There are many active chapters of this fine organization across the country. They promote breast cancer recovery by teaching fly fishing to the ladies. I've built several on the Elkhorn pink blank.

They could do a limited selection based on the most popular configurations. For instance Elkhorn only offers a couple of the most popular blanks. I have built on the Elkhorn and it is very nice, but very expensive, and I really like the MHX performance. As to using components, wraps, etc to make a pretty lady's rod, I've done that before, too. But when the customer wants a pink rod, she wants

Would others on this site be grateful if Mudhole would offer a limited selection of MHX blanks (especially fly) in pink for the ladies?

So that means I can make him swim left to right and upside down, and he's good to go? That'll win me a bar bet.

Problem is, my logo and spec graphics read left to right from the butt to the top, but Mudhole's fluke decal would look upside down (can a fluke look upside down?) relative to my graphics, if I pointed him toward the tip. Oh well, this must be one of life's imponderables.

I built a personal pompano jigging rod for that same Stradic C14 2500 reel. all day jigging from the Naples pier demands the lightest weight setup to avoid fatigue. I used a 6'6" MHX blank and Recoil guides for an overall rod weight of just about 3 ounces. I think the Recoils are by far the lightest guides available and they perform very well, and the are virtually indestructible.

I have a dear friend who travels from Ohio to the Jersey shore each Summer to drift the bays for flounder and fluke. He fishes with 30 year old junk and I want to build an heirloom rod for him. I know very little about this kind of fishing. He likes conventional, and he drift fishes with some type of "flounder rig". Is anybody familiar with this type of fishing. and do you have any

How 'bout a 7'6" MHX 4 wt? Mudhole says #12 stripper, #4 X 1, #3 X 2, #2 X 2, #1 X 2. How would you guys do it?

I applied two coats of epoxy finish to my wraps with a beautiful result. after a couple of days of curing I decided to use eyeglass cleaner to wipe off fingerprints, etc. This left subtle cloudy spots on the finish that appear to be permanent. Can epoxy finish be polished successfully, or must I sand and apply another coat?

Bob, This fellow knows what he wants. He was quite specific with the specs. I told him that he would be looking at $500-$600 per rod. Conventional as in not a spinning reel but a baitcaster.

Clyde, I'm considering the Lamiglass GSB132-1L, but I would be interested to know what you would recommend for this application.

Thanks, Jim, Wes & Bob. As to the reel dictating guide size & placement, what are the determining factors and strategies. The client want to use a shimano calcutta 600 series, or bigger reel.

I've been asked to build a conventional surf rod for pompano. The client wants an 11' blank for 4-6oz. lure weight and 20-30# line. Are the Fuji K's appropriate for conventional surf? How many and what sizes would you suggest? Any good resources for surf rod building? Thanks.

I'm building a 9' 8wt 4pc fly rod for saltwater use. I intend to use Recoil double foot strippers and Recoil single foot heavy duty running guides. What are your opinions on guide sizes? Thanks.

I do a ton of Erie walleye and smallmouth fishing. a few years ago I built a spinning rod on the St Croix 5S66MF-G SCV blank. I used Recoil guides. This has been my favorite rod for this type of fishing. The top of the line SCV blank is a little pricey but its incredible sensitivity and light weight are just what the doctor ordered. If there ever was an application that called for those two

Would you please explain your "wiping on" technique? Also, will tinting the permagloss result in an opaque coating? How much tint do you use? Thanks.

I'm trying to paint a rod blank. I sprayed several coats of black Krylon Fusion then wet sanded. I then tried to brush on U40 Permagloss for a finish coat and got a gloppy, lumpy , uneven mess. The permagloss also seemed to melt the Krylon paint. Any ideas or suggestions?
