my attempt at making an automatic epoxy mixer using white acrylic (3 by 7, 3mm thick), a 30rpm drying motor.
Acrylic was bent to approximately 45 degrees using heat from a pop up toaster

currently, am building something similar, using a 9ft 3wt 4pcs MHX fly blank as a travel spinning rod. i will be using a size 2000/2500 shimano reel with 6 or 8lb braid, and have used a size 16 Fuji YSG as the butt guide on the last few rods (6', 6'6 , 7') without much issue.
For mono, probably a 20 is best suited as mono seems to be 'springier' and would probably need a slightly larger butt

i use a fly reel / baitcast reel (due to the flat surface on the upper part of the reel( in the reel seat and put it down on a flat surface. from there (this is after i have done static flex testing and wrapping), i adjust my guides to ensure they are in line. works so far, and for me, it has been more accurate then sighting down the guide train. doesn't seem to matter if it is a baitcast or spi

my TM is yellow, but not as bad as Super coat (which is brown), and the other finishes...
the important thing is to mix up all the crystals in the resin but either microwave or hot water, after which I stir.. it cures the same... and i cant really tell that it looks yellow on the rod as I dont use light colors to wrap

no sir.. i dont have access to a TFO 6wt 9'.. i'm just quoting the weight from their website..
i may have forgotten to mention its a BVK that i was using as an example..
Blank weight : 1.8 oz
Factory spec rod : 3 oz

Using TFO as an example, their 9' 6wt factory built is at 3oz.. they used carbon fibre reel seat

i tried the rat tail file method by hand and by drill, but never had much luck .. short of reaming individual rings to fit on the blank and shaping it on the blank, i now use a round rasp to 'ream' the bore of the cork grip (if i built it on a mandrel). the diameter of the rasp is slightly larger than 0.25in and it will remove cork quite fast, so I normally use it if I have to remove a fair bit o

chances are, it should be a blank from mudhole as well ?
my 2wt and 5 wt came in 3.07 oz (TFO Finesse 2wt 7'3) and 3.4 oz (TFO BVK 5wt 8'6) respectively..the REC SF guides I used were in the sizes of RSF/RSFX 1,2 3 and strippers of Fuji CLSG10/REC RSG12 and the wraps were short and grips were all cork with a burl cork right after the recessed reel seat (2nd cork ring from bottom), I believe

would a BVK 5wt 8'6 help?
I recently built the BVK as my 2nd fly rod.. haven't casted it yet as i am waiting for 72-120 hr curing period for the finish..
I built it up with REC RSFX1 x 5, RSFX2 x 3, RSNX4 x 1 & RSG12 x 1 as stripper. Tip was a REC RTTUL-S 4.5 (though recommended size was 4, it was a tight fit and light sanding of the paint on the tip did nothing). Total of 11 guides i

i've finally received all the parts i ordered from mudhole (TFO Finesse 2Wt blank and stuff) and have almost finished building it up already..
RTTUL-S tip
5 x RSF 1
2 x RSF 2
1 x RSF 3
1 x CLNSG 10
total of 9 guides excluding the tip.( i checked out TFO's recommended spacing and noticed 8 guide spacing excluding the tip top..) i did static testing and noticed that i have a very nice cur

todd. thanks for the confirmation .. i've decided to go with the light duty SF REC guides.. i figured, if i take care of my guides ( and i do) everytime i go fishing, i should be quite safe, since the material is the same anyway.. the tarpons we get here , if any , is the ox-eye tarpon .. pretty small compared to what you guys have..
couldnt find a 6' 2wt in the St Croix blowout, unless you

thanks for the input guys.. i would be open to CTS, if Mudhole was stocking it.. as i am located in south east asia, it can be quite a pain ordering parts from various sites... so i am trying to get as much things from one single supplier..
while i have built a number of spinning and casting rods for myself.. this would be the first fly rod i am building..i will be trying to target mullets w

Herb/Phil,
thanks.. as i dont have experience with recoil guides, i cant really tell about the sizes.. that the reason i decided to do it with TLSG4 (mudhole is selling them), to cut down the weight in front and hopefully not slow it down by too much..
now that you have mentioned the sizes, i have added them to my order, including the recoil tip (small loop). By single foot RECs, you mean

15. 2wt fly rod..
i was making up a shopping list on mudhole and have gotten stuck here..
i am going to purchase a 2wt TFO Finesse Series 4-pc blank and was intending to get some Fuji titanium guides.. i was initially planning for a TFST4.5 tip and TLSG4.5 (6pc) and one TLNSG 8 & 10 each.. what i just realised is, i dont have 2wt line for comparison..
so my question is, can a 2wt flyline pass thru TLSG

i tried dripping some finish into a bowl of water.. i emptied out the water the following day and was left with a 'close to perfect' sphere of rod finish.. moreover, in Singapore, RH is pretty high, often ranging around 70%~90% (Garey knows how humid it is).. so i don't beli

a slight misjudgement on the marking on the 12cc syringes could mean quite a big difference.. i think you be better off using 3 cc syringe for measuring like Joe said.. while it is not recommended, i do mix 0.5cc of each whenever i need to recoat a guide wrap or 2 and i didnt have any tackiness issues.. additionally, i have tried stirring the mix, generating bubbles, but before I apply it, i ligh

go with what works..
i have had high numbers of leader snagging onto a guide during casting, regardless of guide size, with a number of leader knots.. even size 10 guides get snagged while casting 12# mono with 50#leader on a 12.5 ft Silstar rod..

Bill, what are what?
Phil/Andrew, sadly, the smallest TLSG i can get are only 6, and 5.5 for LSG or CLSG, unless i ordered those online. That being said, my leader knot is those that are used in "Japanese jigging" . The PR of FG knots have a very small 'profile', note very much bigger that the thickness of the leader itself and can past through most guides very easily.

i don't want to 'feel' them, but it's the first time i've used titaniums.. and i am pretty amazed at the weight, or lack of it
and boy , do they eat into the aluminium oxide stone on the dremel..

22. Re: guide sizes
actually, the stockist i buy guides from does 'recommends' me to get the sizes.. LNSG12, 10,8, LSG8,7, 6, 5.5, assuming 5.5 is the smallest i am going for.. thankfully, i just tell him to get me what i asked for..

or are titanium guides to light that i can barely feel them?
I'm trying to determine my guide spacing for simple spiral on my NFC MB663 blank, and after taping on the guides, it just feels like there's not much weight there?
guide setup: my tip is TFST 5.5 (2.0) , followed by TLSG6 x 6 and butt guide is TLNSG10. spacing from tip , 5in,5in,5in,6in,6in,6.5in,11in, 20in to reel. i will be te

umm. Sundays, only a few shops are open.. Hong Guan (not sure if they are open, but i think their signboard says they open on sunday) and Joe tackle.. there has been rumours of business ethics issues with Hong Guan, so if you do drop by, I suggest you hold on to your wallet and compare prices
Personally, if you are looking for some of the 'higher end' reels, try Lure Haven (Bussorah Street) or

hmm .. most of the shops selling rod building items here close around 6pm.. you could try to get your stuff on saturdays
what items do you specifically need? the main shops i frequent are Sabre Strokers (NFC distributor) and Angers Outfitters, both at Beach Road. While they do have Fuji guides, the stockist or Fuji is SEA Tackle, near Kallang MRT station. Their price for the guides, however,is

off topic.. but you are in Singapore?
most of the anglers here would find the spiral wrap rods 'wierd', but there are a handful of freelance builders that prefer to build spiral wraps, for reasons that have been said many times over. the in-house rod builders at the tackle shops are pretty resistant to change, simply, i guess, because most of their customers are not used to seeing spirals.

27. Re: Clear CP?
i've had that problem too.. CP doesnt seem to show the dull haze if it is on thread wraps, but when used on the blank over the decal, i can see the dull haze under the sunlight.. I have stopped using CP and now use Gudebrod's Rod restorer for my 'CP' needs. It helps to keep the color of the thread, but doesnt not seem to give me that haze. I have used it for the last 8 or so personal rods i've bu

Richard, I used to have the same worry as you .. the left over finish curing hard and the one on the rods just always seem to be 'soft' enough to imprint with the fingernail.. was even more worried when i was able to peel the finish off, instead of cracking which you get with the store bought rods..
after using the rods, and understanding some of the replies, i have gotten over it.. it holds u

if you have the book by Dale Clemens, (cant rememeber which one right now), you could get the specs from there.. few years back, i got a company to make one out of acrylic using the specs in the book... it worked well except for the fact that the v-groove was out by 2 mm

do you guys use PR knot (with PR bobbin) or FG / Midknots ? the PR, FG or midknots have apretty low "knot profile".. overall knot is not much thicker than the leader diameter. it's a pain to tie it though
