I've been out of the rod building for several years and I'm thinking about getting started again. I know things have changed over the years. My question is CTS still still top of the line in blanks or are there others? I use to build on CTS and a few Rainshadow also. Thanks Terry

The other day I had to replace a guide on a rod that I had built about two years ago. I noticed that when I cut down into the threads and pealed them back the CP had not penetrated down through to the rod. In fact the bottom of the threads were just as if I hadn't used anything at all. I thought that I was using a good CP. Now I know that I didn't pack the threads so tight that something couldn't

I have built several 9' & 10' " dablin rods" over the years and I use steelhead rods with a fast action tip and line 2- 6 lb. test.

If you want a level finish first start with a level rod. I have a small level that I use while I adjust my rod supports. When the whole rod is level then and only then do I think about mixing the finish. Hope this helps.

Went to their site, my Portuguese is a little rusty. Looked at the cork rings but I guess like you said, " aimed more at the Europeans " because I didn't understand any of it.

For channel cats I prefer 9' steelhead rods. You can get the blanks for various line sizes and actions. I fish both lakes and rivers and have several .different rods to meet the conditions and styles of which I'm fishing. Something like fishing for bass. Most generally you have a rod for crankbaits, worms, jigs, spinners ect, ect,. Any way you get my drift.

What kind of catfish are you going for, Channel or Flathead ? In strong current in a river or still water in a lake ? Or are you drifting ?

I'm needing a little help on what M guides to use on a CTS 6'6'' trout spinning rod using 2-4lb test line. The reel face measurement figures out the be 20mm for the butt guide. I thought about using CMVSG 20, 10, 5, and then 3 or 4 04Ls and a CMVST05-04.5 for the tip top. Any input on this would be appreciated. This will be my first time using these guides. Thanks Terry

Thanks guys. Since I'm building this for a friend of mine's father-in law for a Christmas present I think I'll stick with the regular guides. I still might try them on another rod for myself. Once again thanks for the replies. Terry

Has anybody used the Fuji TATSG guides ? I'm going to build a trout and crappie spinning rod, 6' 6" using 2 - 4 lb. test with micros and was just wondering about these guides. Thanks

Once you get the color chart I would suggest putting a couple of coats of your favorite CP on just to see how dark the threads will turn.

Thanks. I live in Kansas and have fished for bass that way. Just didn't know that there was a name for the technic.

Thanks Michael, I don't know how old this rod is. A friend of mine bought it at a garage sale and wanted me to find a missing guide to tie on it. I'm sure you are right about the guide being chrome plated. There is nothing impressive about these guides other than I can't seem to come up with one. Terry
