Lets not take for granted how long or how new we are to the craft of rod building. Been doing this for some time now and today I got careless. I was getting ready to expoy a rod and had to put on the tip top. As I was getting ready to strip some glue off of a glue stick with a fresh razor, I was cutting towards me and the blade skipped the stick and gave me a nice gash on the thumb. This is a rookie mistake if I ever made one, never done this before and just got careless today. Lesson learned, hopefully someone else won't make this mistake.

Thats one reason I use epoxy.

The accident usually follows the feeling of "I shouldn't be doing this, but..."

Both in my profession and my hobbies I get cut up. Part of the territory.

Learned that lesson when I was 12 years old, sliced the finger down to the bone, no stitches, took a month to heal, but what did I know, just a kid then. Now I even hand sand items away from my body.

Thanks for sharing. It might keep someone else from getting hurt.

We all do it at some point..... I was stripping a streamer off of a waddington shank the other day and did the same exact thing. I was thinking to myself "this is not a good idea" 2 min later I had a wad of paper towels and duct tape on my thumb, which just comfermed my thoughts of a few min previous.......

We all get careless sometimes but fact is we all know better. That is what makes it worse.

I should listen to that little voice in my head more often....

so true that lil voice saying this is bad dont do this you know better its gonna happen and yet we still do it

It has been years since I have done that, but my finger still burns from the first one. I was getting ready to take my newly purchased boat on its maiden voyage out in the Salt. I was getting ready to put the tops on some boat rods. I was halfway through the finger tip of my index finger, fingernail and all. The ER Doc tells me he couldn't do anything other than glue it so I tell him to knock himself out. He gets through and I ask him if that was going to hold up while I was fishing tomorrow......He tossed a handfull of the glue pacs and tells me I was probably going to need them.......He was right.........lol

That makes me cringe just hearing it. My buddy once got a 7/0 treble hook through his wrist, looked very painful.
