121. Feather Inlays
When it comes to feather inlays I know there are many different ways to go about it. For example using CP vs. Permigloss. I did my first test run on a inlay last night. Set the feather using CP. Turned out nice and was a lot easier than I thought.
My question is this. When using CP to fix feathers, do I run the risk of the feather curling at all when I do the epoxy? I wouldn't think so

i've been doing weaves with black background thread and had been using diamondite cp with very good results. since diamondite seems to not be available i'm wondering what other people prefer for this application? i just did one with chromaseal and was not as satisified with the amount of crystal formation on the black thread as i was with the diamondite.

124. Isacord thread
Anybody ever try this? I just left a family function and got into a conversation with my grandmother about rodbuilding. She's quite the seamstress and offered me some of her un-needed thread. It's 40 wt and looks like Madeira but smoother, like the twists are more compact. It looks promising. I'm going to try a test wrap but I would like to hear any thoughts. Thanks

I have just had a single coat of FlexCoat (high build) dry over two coats of Chromaseal. The result is a strange, uneven, milky marbelling on the surface of the dried FlexCoat.
Looks terrible and the whole lot will have to come off unless someone has a remedy. I thought of a second coat of FlexCoat but I think that would just seal the bumpy, milky suface under it.
I have been hobby building fo

Thanks to Rodmaker Magazine, Bobby & Bill, I printed my first electric decals on the holo paper that I purchased at ICRBE. I think I followed the instructions. After printing I let it dry overnight. Today I put on three light coats of Krylon #1321 Matt Finish, letting each coat dry five or 10 minutes. I placed the decal on the rod, put a light line of Chromaseal CP on the edges and four h

This is the first time I've used this brand of color preserver, and it's definitely the last. Typically I will use flex coat, but because I was out of it and needed something quick, I went ahead and used the Gudebrod preserver. I knew I was in trouble about 1/2 way into it, on a Calstar 270-8', when the stuff started to go off on me. Never seen anything like it. I was applying this on the unde

I seem to be having problems applying CP. I have done about 5 tests in the last 3 nights and just can’t get it right. Maybe when I apply my epoxy tonight it will work but here’s the?. When you apply your First coat of CP do you totally saturate it to the point where it looks totally milky and then just leave that alone to spin on the dryer or do i wick off the excess let dry and the

Okay folks I'm sure this is basic but . . . . I have never used fish hawk thread. I have always used gudebrod NCP. I bought some fishhawk at the expo and put the underwraps on my rod in the 221 orange color. My question is, do I need to use color preserver on the fish hawk thread? Again I have only ever used NCP and have not used it before, so any advice would be great.
Thanks ,

Used it for the first time this week and was impressed with the results. Doesn't smell as bad as PG or at least I dont think so. Went on well . Three coats to a smooth finish on silk thread. Time will tell if I can get the cap off next time and be able to pour it. That will be the real test. Any one else used it and have a comment?

Do all thread sealers darken and dull color?I am using chromaseal and it looks a lot darker and dull over dark blue gudebrod cp nylon with white ncp trim thread. Will it look different after I finish it or not?It looks awful right now. What will happen if I dont use sealer? This is on guide wraps.

I have never used much CP other than for feather inlays. After starting to use it on some wraps, I am noticing a lot of what appear to be micro-bubbles in the rod finish over the CP, giving almost a hint of a cloudy condition. My finishes over straight nylon thread always look great.
I mix my epoxy with a Pac Bay mixer, and then pour in to a 3" alum. tart pan. The finish is warmed befo

I just put finish over a decal and the thing fisheyed like you won't believe and turned up on the edges a little too. I used a little bit of chromaseal around the edges just to build a little ramp more than anything (first time trying that). The decal is a peel and stick from decal connection (first time using these too). I've used other decals before and have had no problems at all so I'm rea

OK...let me preface what follows with,"I know this topic has been beat to death."
I just finished up the last of my old stash of original Brilliance CP. I had stashed it so well, that I didn't dicover it until AFTER I bought 2 bottles of the 811. I received these several years ago, before the formulation change. I had bought alot of the Brilliance. :)
I did a search for this topic

I am almost done with a cross wrap on my rod and there a couple of areas i would like to adjust and pack the threads.
In your experience if I put a dab of Chromaseal at those points and I am using metallic thread will the thread colors be different in those areas after I apply the epoxe?
Thank you for any input.

139. best choice for a CP
I have not used a Color Preserver before but am in need of one now for both thread and for feather inlays. I have read many threads here about one or the other.
Does it matter if I use one brand of CP and another brand of finish? Is one better than another in regard to feather inlay?
Thanks much!

Will Chromaseal cure in colder temperatures, say 50 - 60 degrees, if you wait long enough?
I have already had "issues" with painting epoxy on wraps where I let the CP dry "overnight". I want to make sure that if I wait long enough, that it will completely cure in these lower temps.
Any information or suggestion is appreciated.

I have only attempted a couple of inlays with feathers and was working on another one last night. While I was applying the CP to the feathers with a brush that I would normally
use when applying epoxy to the threads it was too course and would seperate the feathers.. Decided to try a smoother brush hair type and it worked out just fine with
no seperation of the feathers...Im sure the seasone

Gentlemen:
I very seldom use cp due to the instability of cp or my ignorance of proper application techniques( I am an amatuer) I normally use a metallic base wrap and regular nylon guide wrap and like the results. However my latest project requires cp and regular nylon thread to retain the desired color.
I purchased a bottle of chromeaseal and this stuff worked flawless on my test wrap. A

143. guide prep problems
Why do the silver tips of the guide feet where I filed for easy ramp up show through the thread? Are my wraps not tight enough? Cheap thread (pacbay)? This is my first rod and this is discouraging. I can tell that there is no spaces between the thread, so it looks like my wrap is tight. It's that the thread over the silver part is lighter than the thread over the black part of the guide foot....

144. CP froze!!
My Chromaseal CP just arrived and when I got it out of the mail box it was frozen solid. Is this going to ruin the CP? I looked on the bottle for it to say something like don't let it freeze or don't let it get above a certain degree F. I am attempting to defrost it now, but I don't want to ruin my first rod with CP that doesn't work. Or is there something I should do to treat it now? Any thought

I am going to purchase some Chromaseal color preserver. It sounds like a great product.
My Question is , I still have some L S Supreme and some Glass Coat epoxe left that I would like to use and want to know if the Chromaseal is compatable with these two products.
Thanks again for your help.

Gentlemen:
I mostly do saltwater rods, a base wrap and a guide wrap and use regular nylon thread with no cp.
Occasionally I will use cp.When I do I have I have used primarily Flex Coat , U40 or Gudebrod.
I some times find particles suspended in the cp or it has gotten too thick etc.and I always hold my breath hoping the final results will be satisfactory.
Are there any new products out there

149. colour preserver
Hi All, hope everyone is well. I am experimenting with some Pearsall's silk thread and noticed, because it is not NCP thread, that the colour of the blank bleeds right through once you put finish on. I do want the thread colour to be noticeable with finish on, but I also want to allow some of the blank to bleed through to tone the thread colour down a bit.
Do any of you more experienced bu

150. Pink wraps?
A female friend wants vivid pink guide wraps on a forest green fly blank. What would be more vivid, nylon or silk thread with CP? Or should I consider using NCP thread in pink? Do I use different CP on silk than on nylon?
Thanks for your input.
