I had gotten some thread from Glissengloss.com it is called Rainbow blending thread, a mettalic filament wrapped with nylon fiber, they look really good shiny and sparkling, but when I coated it with epoxy it look like it was going to be all right, but when I came back 5 hours later, there was fish eye galore!! it looked like a pic of valleys and hills, I thought maybe I should of put cp over it,

The squid fishing season is round the corner and thought of hitting the guys thisyear with some glow in the dark rods!!!! I think this would boost the image of custom rod building within our fishing community. Having thought about it I came to the conclusion that a luminous say 5-6 inch rod tip would look and serve the purpose. This could be achieved by wrapping the last tip-top end of the rod wi

I recently did 2- 17in tigers on 1in diameter blanks and I have had issues with finish repelling in certain areas. I am using Chromaseal CP. I had 2 bottles both purchased at the same time and the first bottle seemed fine. On the first rod's base wrap I used bottle number one and got a nice level finish. For the top layer I had to use hte second bottle and had several areas that wouldn't take fin

Having been away for a couple of years, I see there's some new things on the market. Got a couple of Q's. Chromaseal Color Preserver, and Craysons Crystal Clear CP.... Do these do anything that that standard Flex Coat CP doesn't? Any advantage? Mud Hole's CRB Bubble Buster... Does it work? Is it worth the 8 bucks, or is it best to just do it the old fashioned way? There seems to be some

Hi Gents, After the recent posts on using Madeira and other sewing threads for guide wraps it's interesting to note that there have been no negative comments. If you've had a problem with it please speak up so the issues can be addressed, we might all learn something. The stuff isn't for everyone but I'm sure everyone who uses it or is thinking about it would be interested to hear them.

Hey all just a quick FYI. I have been experimenting with Floriani thread I buy from a local sewing shop with great results. I was worried about a possible silicone coating etc however the people there assured me there was non used. So I bought a spool and gave it a whirl. Seems to work very well. Good thing for me is the store is really close and they have MANY MANY colors to chose from. P

Hi All, When I checked my wraps this AM I found that last night's last application of CP dried badly bubbled. I guess I must have shaken it before applying although I was careful not to. Is there any way to get these bubbles out. Many Thanks.

Hi All, Not very often I have to post regarding epoxying issues but this one has really annoyed me to the max. I did an 11" epoxy job on the butt section of the blank and after laying down a base wrap and 1 coat of CP. After applying the epoxy I got the usual bubbles but this time they all rather small and easy to remove after hitting them with some heat. The issue I was experienced is t

Well i went to a fabric shop and spotted the exact color i was looking for to accent my guide wraps. Here is my question. The thread is 100% polyester thread. It looks great as trim for my guide wraps. Any problems with polyester thread for that application?

I forgot to rotate my rod after applying first coat of CP. Got busy with the kids. now I have a couple of sags that are white and some small bubbles. CP is chromaseal. Is there any way to repair this, and if I have to re-wrap how do I get the CP cleaned off the blank. This happened to two blanks with open wraps and hand written names so any suggestions on repair would be greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone, I have applied cp (chromaseal) to underbindings, however, I did mange to get a small amount onto the blank just past the trim ends. Will epoxy finish (threadmaster) cover the cp line where it meets the blank (has dried white in areas) so as the cp can not be seen, or do I need to carefully remove the dried cp from the trim line before applying epoxy finish? Thanking you.

Hi Everyone, I purchased a bottle of Threadmaster Chromaseal C/P approx 2 years ago. I plan to coat the underbindings on a build, which I wrapped back then. My question is "will the Chromaseal still be ok to use?, is there a shelf- life for this product?". There appears to be no discoloration, only some seperation of the parts. The product was used once when i recieve it, &

I'm new to rod building and used color presever for the first time this weekend. After doing a dec wrap with Maderia thread i put on two coats of CP, let the first coat dry for about an hour then recoated. I followed the instructions on the bottle using it liberally - may have been my problem, used too much. When i woke up Sunday morning the dec wrap had bubbles all on top of the wrap, some ma

I need a automotive clear single or two part urethane or acrylic I don't care It just has to contain no uv blockers. The reason is I built a rod last year that was uv light reactive, that was until I had it clear coated. I knew it would probably be a problem but I thought I would try it anyways. I want to do another one and find a way to make it work with a quality clear coat. I have already ca

Hi All, Do some CP maintain the original thread colors better than others. Some lighter threads I have using lately have been going darker after CP was added. There is no colour change when the epoxy goes on after the CP is applied. Also does CP have a used by period when it is no longer good to use? Thanks, Richard

Hi All, I've been getting really bad results on my finish work over CP. I have tried 3 brands with new bottle and still getting same results. When I apply my finish everything seems to look smooth by the time I'm done with the last guide, I notice the rest is getting a really ugly finish look. Not sure if you call it fisheye or something else? The finish doesnt wants to stay in certain are

I normally use black thread with metallic trim bands so I do not have much experience with CP. On two of the rods I have built using lighter colors with Chromaseal I have had delamination between the finish and the thread and was wondering what I may be doing wrong??? I am applying one coat of Chromaseal and one build was using one coat of Threadmaster HB and the other with two coats of Pro-Kot

Sense I have been using Chroma Seal I have had trouble with my epoxy finish migrating to the center of the guides and my butt wraps look like they have speed bumps. I have been building rods for a long time and have never run in to this problem before. Can any anyone shed some light on this pain in the, "you know what"?

This is the 6th rod I've had problems with Madeira thread. For some reason, only this brand fisheyes on me. The first rod I didn't care about, it was a hack job broken rod re-cut for ice fishing, fish eyed like @#$%&. The next two I had the same problem and it was two different color spools of thread than the first. Only over the thread would I have problems. The first rod, there was no CP o

I wanted to see if anyone else had this experience. I think I have piling on so much CP it dries bumpy and looks like sugary cake icing. When over coated with epoxy, you can see light reflecting off of the little points of dried CP. It keeps going through my head --- like the first George Bush said and much parodied on SNL by Dana Carvey - "thousand points of light" I thought this
